Portastorm wrote:I'm thinking we see a temp bust today here in Austin. EWX has us with a high of 41. We're sitting 24 degrees right now with increasing clouds and still major-league cold air advection. I seriously doubt we get above 37-38 degrees. Of course, that'll also mean we'll drop quicker to freezing once the sun sets.

All in all tonight/tomorrow's event has the potential to be the WORST one of the winter for the Austin area. QPF values in the models are much higher than previous events. Only saving grace will be recent warm temps so roads may be slow to ice over. Elevated roadways/bridges will be a joke tomorrow morning if this forecast verifies.

Wrong-o, Portastorm! Surface temps in and around the Austin metro area are now in the upper 30s. A forecast high of 41 looks quite reasonable. Good thing nobody bet me on this!

I do still think tonight's event has the potential to be the worst winter storm for AUS this season. The latest icing maps from the Winter Weather desk out of NWS suggest at least a 50% chance of greater than 0.10" of icing overnight into tomorrow morning. That would be from a combination of sleet and freezing rain.

Temps are all over the place! I'm sitting at 32 here in Bellville.

Up to a blistering 36f at my house. Got to 38f when the sun peeked out for a while.

Heh, heh ... that's pretty funny. Wouldn't it be great if enough accumulating sleet fell in Austin to even give me a chance of doing something like that!

Any chance that moisture will scoot further north toward north Texas, or is our air too dry?

Tis the life of a Texan in winter. Never enough wintry precip.

Yes, it will be. I plan to sleep outside so that I can fully appreciate this unseasonably cold weather.

Should be alright. I heard it's hard to get hypothermia & frostbite in Texas.

Completely outside right? No sissy-boy tent to keep the precip off right?

Winter Storm warnings pushed further east. Knocking on the door of Harris and Fort Bend counties now.

They need to just to be sure. Pro mets, should we be watching the wet bulb temp and dewpoints as the rain approaches?

First, you must watch for the rain to develop.

Speaking of dewpoints, mine just jumped to 30.2F with a temp of 44.6F. Will the dewpoint get any lower before the moisture?

I am not sure about Wxman 57. He is now a cold weather advocate, so he maybe biased ( Oh my goodness. I never thought those words would come out on this page. I feel like the British band when they were defeated at Yorktown. They played, "The World Turned Upside Down".) toward colder weather. :)
