I modified the 12Z FWD sounding with the latest surface conditions in Graham with SHARPpy, and the result is about as classic of an ice storm sounding as possible.

After a brief warming, Denton is back down to freezing and Decatur is down to 28. It looks like DFW may have just dodged a nasty ice storm.

For now we have, however I'm expecting the temp to drop to 32 after sunset, so Tarrant Co isn't out of the woods yet.

Definitely a good idea with temps at 29ºF and dropping at both Decatur and Mineral Wells with elevated convection upstream.

It's crazy how vivid the surface cold front is on GOES-16 Band 9 (6.9 um, or mid level water vapor).

Freeze line (32) stretches from Dension, to Denton, to Stephenville, to Brownwood. Alliance and Meacham airports are @ 34, Granberry 33, and DFW Airport @ 37

Just about anywhere in Dallas Co it's in the upper 30's

Trees have 1/16" of ice on them from freezing rain. It has now changed to sleet here in Weatherford. and thundering!

Sherman is at 32 and Celina is 33, so the freeze line isn't too far away from the northern burbs.

My GF just text me and said it's 31 and that her car and the trees in Saginal have ice on them now. Just looked and Alliance has dropped back to 32 :cold:

KDYX hasn't updated in about 30 minutes. Casualty of the ice?

It will probably cool a little bit from supercooled droplets when the precip shield moves in. If you are near freezing now you got a slight shot.

It looks like temperatures dropped a couple of degrees out west when this precip shield moved in. I noticed Mineral Wells dropped from 31 to 28. Perhaps we're seeing the same thing now that it's moving into Tarrant county? I'm not sure what could be causing it, because it doesn't appear we have much room to web bulb. Or perhaps I'm just grasping at straws because I'm desperate. :cold:

Not sure why you folks up in north TX want an ice storm. Being stranded at home and without power is awful. I'd much rather have a cold rain than freezing rain. Sleet and snow are a different story.

I ask her location, she's at the "International Leadership of Texas" HS campus on 287 and Blue mound Rd.
