its looking likely next week could be the coldest overall week of the winter

I feel like if we can't get something more than a flake we should just move on to spring

NWS San Antonio/Austin received reports of sleet in Williamson, Bexar and Comal Counties during the past hour. Melting on contact though.

Got some sleet a bit ago. May catch the back edge of another batch which would likely also be sleet. Have hopes that the Austin/Temple area stuff makes it here as a nice flizzard around sunrise as 850s drop to near freezing by then.

The low for this morning was originally forecasted for 29 yesterday. They lowered it to 26 yesterday evening. As of right now the actual temp is 22.

This might not have local relevance but the GFS is now forecasting at the ALL-TIME record low for Chicago next week....that should get everyone's attention on just how bitterly cold this air is sitting over North America!! Truly historic outbreak potentially on the table...doesn't mean the record will verify or that it's directed at our backyard but could mean there will be plenty of cold hanging around for future systems to tap into

I think I saw 2-3 sleet pellets on my drive in to work today. Temperature 40 degrees. Need to build a taller wall...

There were multiple reports of sleet and even a few light snow flurries around the Austin metro area between 2-3 am. Sadly, I saw none of it as I was in dreamland. I was dreaming of a world where the GFS and Euro showed a Texas snowstorm three days out.

A lot of potential on the table for next week...the cold will be there, now it's a waiting game to see if the upstream S/Ws can consolidate at just the right time! Models are going to have a lot of trouble with this kind of cold and implications upstream and downstream

Had enough sleet to collect by my wipers on the windshield and built up in the valleys of the roof. Wish I would have peaked outside but just too tired. also had 1.1" of rain. This is in NE Brazos County

I was in snowstorm dreamland as well at that time.
Sadly, I cannot confirm, nor deny any of these reports.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
346 AM CST Wed Jan 23 2019

.SHORT TERM (Today through Thursday)...
Between 2 am and 3 am there were continued reports of sleet, mainly
around the Austin Metro area, but a few reports to the east of Austin
from Elgin to Bastrop. There have been a few reports of snow flurries
as well. Without an atmospheric sounding here across South Central
Texas to observe the ongoing temperature/moisture profile overhead
would have to assume that while surface temperatures remain above
freezing some wet-bulb cooling is going on aloft resulting in the
sleet and flurries.
As the morning progresses the main trough will
push any of the precipitation east of the area and dry air will
continue to work in at the surface. Dew points across the Hill
Country have already fallen into the teens. With the lower dew
points, surface temps above freezing, ground temperatures WELL above
freezing (in the mid 50s per the Texas Mesonet), and precipitation
ending there should be no travel impacts from the wintry
precipitation during the morning commute and bus travel times
.

Technically, parts of DFW have now seen 2 winter wx events (sad but true) but things look bleak for any significant event in the near future based on the 00z runs.
