Winter cancel, don't you know?

You left out a key part - "for the next 2 weeks". Moderately strong cold front around the 14th that will likely get Houston down to near freezing, but all precip should be in advance of the front. Snow for the TX Panhandle and OK on the back side of the low. I AM hoping for a very warm December, and not just because I hate cold. I'm in the finals (2 left in contest) in the year-long office forecast contest. This month it's Galveston. I have warmer temps than my competitor. Come on, heat!

FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...SHORTWAVE RIDGING WILL BUILD OVER THE
REGION FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY...KEEPING CLEAR SKIES AND NEAR
NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN THE FORECAST. THE LARGE UPPER TROUGH OFF
THE WESTERN CONUS/CANADIAN COAST WILL MOVE EAST OVER THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING. THE LATEST 24 HOURS
OF MODEL GUIDANCE CONTINUED YESTERDAY`S TREND OF KEEPING THE
STRONGEST FORCING FOR ASCENT NORTH OF THE RED RIVER. THE
CONSISTENT TIMING OF THE TROUGH MOVING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING ALSO
FURTHER LIMITS THE POTENTIAL FOR GULF MOISTURE TO ADVECT NORTH
AHEAD OF THIS TROUGH. AS A RESULT...WENT AHEAD AND DROPPED A
MENTION OF RAIN FROM THE FORECAST ON SUNDAY.

THIS TROUGH IS FAIRLY STRONG...SO IF WE END UP GETTING MORE
MOISTURE THAN EXPECTED ADVECTED NORTH ACROSS THE REGION
SATURDAY...THE LIFT SHOULD BE THERE TO SUPPORT SOME SCATTERED RAIN
SHOWERS. HOWEVER MODEL FORECAST SOUNDINGS ARE FAIRLY DRY AT THIS
TIME...SO THE TROUGH WILL LIKELY MOVE ACROSS THE AREA WITHOUT
PRODUCING ANY PRECIPITATION ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS ON SUNDAY.
A COLD FRONT IS STILL EXPECTED TO MOVE SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE AREA
IN ITS WAKE SUNDAY MORNING AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON. HOWEVER SIMILAR
TO WEDNESDAY`S COLD FRONT...THERE WILL NOT BE MUCH IN THE WAY OF A
COOL DOWN BEHIND THIS FRONT. IT WILL SIMPLY SEND A REINFORCING
SHOT OF DRY AIR ACROSS THE REGION WHILE TEMPERATURES REMAIN NEAR
OR SLIGHTLY BELOW SEASONAL NORMALS.

MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...THE WEATHER PATTERN ALOFT LOOKS ALMOST
LIKE A CARBON COPY OF WHAT WE EXPECT TO TRANSPIRE TODAY THROUGH
SUNDAY. ANOTHER COMPACT SHORTWAVE TROUGH IS PROGGED TO MOVE OVER
THE AREA MONDAY...WITH THE PASSAGE OF A LARGER UPPER TROUGH JUST
OFF TO THE NORTH AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL LIKELY RESULT IN AN
INCREASE IN UPPER LEVEL CLOUD COVER AND THE PASSAGE OF ANOTHER
COLD FRONT...BUT OVERALL THE FORECAST SHOULD REMAIN DRY WITH NEAR
NORMAL TEMPERATURES. OF COURSE THE DETAILS OF THESE EARLY WEEK
TROUGHS COULD CHANGE IN LATER FORECASTS...BUT FOR NOW THE WEATHER
PATTERN LOOKS TO REMAIN DRY FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS ACROSS NORTH
CENTRAL TEXAS.

CAVANAUGH

So with this being said the next 6 to 10 day temperature outlook for NTX will be at or slightly below normal. :ggreen:

If this is how our warm, dry spells are this winter I'll take it. Mid 50s to low 60s and sunny is great in between cold, wet shots.

I was thinking the same thing this morning, this is hardly torchy weather we have now. The reinforcing dry air helps and yesterday was absolutely beautiful. Even the upper 60's I saw this morning forecasted early next week is not horrible. Can't wait for the cold and snow, don't get me wrong. :froze:

Someone told me that WFAA's Pete Delkus said something about the possibility of a White Christmas?

Slow down, that's 3 weeks out.

A cool down starting after mid month culminating in a winter storm a week to 10 days after sets up perfectly for a chance though small of a white Christmas for some. Twice in four years is probably too good to be true though.

Totally fine with me  I arrive in Texas on the 15th of December and don't head back till the 10th of January. I just need the last weekend of January to stay dry. :)

Plenty of snow for most of Texas next 3 weeks - according to CFS. Snow from Brownsville to the FL Panhandle. Yeah, sure, I believe it... Tweeted by Joe Bastardi:

I think that bottom left map is my favorite, my friend and I could have another snow bowl if that were to happen.

Edit: Unless the map is fortelling multiple 1 inch storms that melt later that day. Hopefully not.

From Fort Worth NWS. Notice the rainfall at Gainesville - the most ever recorded in North Texas.

Yup, 2015 (summer drought and all) has definitely been one for the books...and then some.

Take a good, hard, long look and remember this year. It's one for the ages in weather lore. It might be the only time in most of our lives that we get to see something like this.

Looks just like Snowmageddon again! We've seen one 12-inch snow in DFW in recent years, why not another?!? :froze:
