Gonna be a heck of a storm.

If anyone might post a weather map/radar etc of the effect on the Washington DC area and surrounding 50 miles or so, I'd be much obliged. I have a son heading south tomorrow am to a local lake for a day, and just can't seem to get a read on accumulation on Saturday through Sunday. A link for updates would be very helpful (local nwf says only one inch, which seems here is not credible). TIA.

I know there is this graphic for SE Va and NE NC:
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/akq/winter/totalsnow.png

There is the graphical forecasts for Sterling as well, which includes the D.C. area:

Thanks much brunota. I'll track those and see what tomorrow brings. I'm going to call the parent who is hosting the kids at the lake house, as the timing seems a bit off. Hate to be viewed as a downer though, but safety first.

Well, just sent up the red flag warning to my son regarding tomorrow. Took a good look around to where he was traveling (with a senior high student driving) and definitely a WSW in effect with 6" snow predicted. More to the point this is how a WSW is described with regard to travel:

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow are
expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will
make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Thankfully my husband gets what I'm alarmed about, concurs and spoke with our son too, suggesting rescheduling of the overnight due to driving. Thanks again Brunota for your direction link (can't figure why I couldn't quite get to the right place tonight, but oh well).

For the just regular image, when you go to Wakefield's page and the have the news scrolly thingy up top, it is usually the first one that pops up "Expected snowfall for the next 48 hours" I think is what it says. For the graphical forecast you can play with, when you are on Sterling's page, look on the left side under forecasts and it says "Graphical"

Note though, make sure you refresh for the latest.

looks like the m/a will see more snow than expected due to the north trend...wouldn't be shocked if WSWs were up for DC proper

Yes, from the radar VA, northern NC, MD and DE are getting socked. I'm just to the north of the snow line. Looks like the snow is trying to get into Southern NJ.

You're gonna get snow and it's not coming up my way at all...usually it's the reverse.
Be careful, last I heard Cape May county may get 3-6 but the was on KWY at 5AM. no idea what they are saying now.

I'm in Gloucester County so I'm probably in the 1 - 3 inch range.

I saw on the radar that Cape May was getting a decent snowfall. I knew that I was going to be right on the outter edge and if I drove 25 miles south, I'd get something. It's strange to be "oh so close".

We got around 4" here so far, a couple of miles from Reagan National Airport and it's beginning to lighten up some. Our son shoveled the walks instead of sat in the car traveling down I95, and teen hormones were wild this morning, but we made it through. Hope this is a quickly passing storm, as we're already into two used school snow days from the last one. Be safe all. WLD.

looks like we've got still a few hrs of accumulating snow to go..might not end totally until late tonight or maybe early tomorrow if the piece of energy in WV survives the mountains and gets us

Thanks for all your weather updates, lester. I see you're in Baltimore, so not far. Nice to know another S2k member, and suspect you watch during summer fun too. Hope you're handling the snow well, and keeping warm. It's about 19 degrees here.

How you doing up in NJ Stephanie?

At my house I had about 1.5" of snow. I know that points just south of me in NJ received over 3" and in Cape May County they received over 6". I can't find a darn snow depth map!

The storm probably came about 50 - 75 miles north of where it was initially forecasted. There were probably quite a few surprised people south of me when they saw all of the snow that fell.
