We've asked that you explain your pictures before and not just one word. Please explain for the novices and i asked those who are very knowledgeable about weather and they have no clue what this picture is supposed to mean.

Hurakan's pic is indeed nice and it shows cold air stratocumulus over the adjacent ocean waters as far south as the pic shows...an indication of the extent and ferocity of the current cold air advection regime we (once again) find ourselves in the grip of. I'm guessing most if not all of the folks that frequent the florida weather thread are well aware of the phenomenon.

"Stratocumulus can form huge sheets of cloud covering many thousands of square miles, particularly around a high pressure system. This is even more pronounced over the oceans where there is a plentiful supply of moisture. The weather under such overcast clouds can be dry with just the occasional spot of rain, but also tends to be very gloomy, and often for several days as high pressure systems can be so difficult to move on."

The very cold temps over the next 3 days should definitely make at least for central FL have our coldest December average temp ever in many places even colder than Dec '89! Brrr...
January the pattern is supposed to change but long range ensembles still show that the AO & NAO will stay negative over all, at least through the first week of January.

If anything, with all the stratocumulus and the wind providing for mixing, I could see it not getting as cold tonight as originally predicted. Tomorrow night will probably be the "colder" night, even though it may feel colder tonight with all the wind.

Once this is out of the way Tuesday, NWS Miami is showing pleasant warm weather through next Sunday. This will be a short-lived shot at least.

The way is looking tomorrow morning the west coast of the peninsula will be warmer than the east coast thanks to the WNW winds.
Right now Tampa area is in the mid 40s while Vero Beach is down to the upper 30s.

this event does seem analogous to the cold of 2 weeks ago...an advection freeze event followed by a couple of nights of good radiational cooling. the nws seemed to overdo the cold during the last event and i suspect they're overdoing it again. on a positive note it looks like a big warmup is in store for all those first night activities on new year's eve.

Looking at the low records for tomorrow, some cities in South Florida could see new established or tied.

Looks like the forecast low will once again bust significantly here in Jupiter. Forecast is 30 and so far only down to 40 right now. I'm thinking 34-35.

Wind chills are making it feel much colder though. At the Orlando Executive Airport, for instance, a 17mph sustained wind (gusting to 28mph) is generating a wind chill index of 23F.

Saw a few flurries while sitting in the stands at the Jags game. Nothing substantial, but it did snow at my house while I was at the game.

Of course, sitting on hard plastic with the temp being 38F and wind chills in the twenties, and my team losing, I was too dang cold to even think about the flurries.

Yeah, I had about a good quick 2-3 minute light snow/ flurries burst yesterday morning at my home in north Jacksonville. It was a nice pleasant novelty to see the flakes on Christmas weekend.

Had a low temp this morning of 26.6 degrees. Tonight will be colder as the pressure gradient relaxes as that very potent winter storm off the New England coast late this morning moves farther away. Expecting lows tonight in my area in the lower 20s.

This December is the coldest ever on record here in Jacksonville. This morning made it 16 freezes officially at the NWS office just a few mles from where I live. Amazing when you consider that the average total number of freezes in the winter season in Jacksonville is 18. It has been quite an extreme cold pattern for sure thanks to our persistent negative NAO.

Good news is that after Wednesday, it looks that we will get a welcomed reprieve from old man winter with a nice warm-up. Temps will be well into the 70s by this upcoming New Year's holiday weekend. It doesn't appear that no significant arctic air intrusions will be invading the Eastern CONUS at least up until the mid-part of next week.

Despite a pattern of rather egregious low temp forecast busts it looks like the nws has put all the chips on the table and forecast the lowest temps of the season so far: Brooksville 16 (yes, that's central florida and it's not a typo), Lakeland 21, Arcadia 23, Sebring 20, plant city 22. I'll have to see it to believe it. those are big ag areas with citrus and strawberries so let's hope these numbers don't materialize. dewpoints are running a bit high: brooksville is reporting a dewpoint of 32 at 6pm. it will be interesting to watch both sets of numbers this evening.

They are going 37 for Miami - I think they'll probably hit that on the screws this time. Temps quickly dropped to 51-52 around sunset, they seem to be holding there for now. Still a little breezy right here, I wonder if that will persist and keep temps up a couple degrees. Doubt I'll see any frost here, would probably need to be west of the turnpike for that.
