I'm interested to see how the NWS adjusts the temps on Friday. This past weekend, the high for Friday for my area was 33 then 37, then 33 again. This morning the forecast is 40:

Friday
Partly sunny, with a high near 40. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

I'm watching with personal vestment as my 16yr plays varsity soccer for Rockwall High School. The game Friday is at 7:30pm. A 40 degree high is doable to sit in the stands for almost 2 hours. 33 for a high is, "good luck son, you can tell us all about it when you get home and thaw out".

For NWS FTW Office, their forecast temps are going to be 4-6 degrees to warm on both highs and lows. I expect we will be around the freezing mark Tuesday night, and remaining in the mid 30's Wednesday with temps dropping down to the upper 20's Wed night. I won't be surprised to the FTW office issue a freezing drizzle advisory for Wednesday night and Thursday, as it may get pretty slick for the Thursday commute. High's may be around 32 Thursday and Friday with 20's on tap for the weekend.

This will be colder than what models have shown, and may last into mid week next week with more pricip chances.

At what point do we start looking at these extremely low temps as a legit possibility?

What on earth is the gfs smoking. Heavy snow in dfw at 10 degrees would give absurd snow:liquid ratios, and then a high of 3 degrees on Sunday?

Obviously government level stuff. That's crazy. Cheech and Chong want some of that.

It's official ... the vodka-swilling mets at the Portastorm Weather Center are now on board about the Texas Arctic Outbreak. Supplies being shipped in as we speak ...

It is exceptionally rare and would take a meteorological miracle. But it can get easier to snow in a deep Arctic air mass like it does in Canada. Takes very little moisture (in this case our latitude helps us in that department) out of very weak PVa. Basically what the model is forecasting is that the air mass has been displaced so far south of where it usually is by a large margin due to the extreme blocking. For a brief period in time the US is basically Canada.
