Not a lot of snow here. Just brown grass and the snow from December. We're 19% below the snowfall precipation this winter.

I'm kind of enjoying the break from shoveling :P

Looking due West from our Northern Virginia home about two miles from Reagan National, already the sky is cloudy and gray with the look that snow could start any moment. The planes are flying and the media is reporting air and train tickets were snatched up at high premiums to get out of Dodge. Lucky. Our local grocery store had no meats yesterday, and snow shovels were gone too which we needed to replace the one that broke. But we're pretty well set from previous shopping and have a gas generator, ample batteries, charged lanterns, and ground coffee (which we didn't do the first snow storm and beat the beans with a hammer :ggreen: ). Our teens are going a little batty, and to be honest we parents are somewhat dreading this one two. The tri-state area governments remain on emergency status and schools closed.

From the 3 am Baltimore-Washington NWS update, this is what disturbs me the most:

MAKING THE SITUATION MORE COMPLEX AND THE SYSTEM EVEN STRONGER IS A
SCENARIO WELL-DEPICTED ON THE LATEST NAM WITH TWO VERY DEEP SFC LOWS
ROTATING OFF THE MID ATLC COAST. THE DEEPER ONE SLIDES ABOUT THE
SERN SIDE OF THE ONE CLOSER TO THE COAST. BY MIDDAY WED...BOTH ARE
NEARING 985 MB...BY EARLY EVENING ALMOST ANOTHER 10MB DROP IN EACH
/AN EVEN BIGGER DROP FOR THE ONE JUST OFF THE SRN COAST OF CAPE
COD/. BOTH WILL EVENTUALLY BE WRAPPED BECOME VERTICALLY STACKED AS
THE UPPER LOW SWINGS OFF THE COAST BY LATE AFTN WED. THIS WILL
INCREASE THE INTENSITY OF PRECIP BANDS STREWN ACROSS THE ERN
SEABOARD OF THE MID ATLC /PARTICULARLY THE I-95 CORRIDOR OF NRN VA
AND ERN MD...THRU NJ AND LONG ISLAND.

They're predicting 6-12 more inches of snow on top of the 21" I already have here in Pittsburgh. I'll probably leave work at about noon today and get snuggled in at home.

Not sure where to post this:

I was just trying to reschedule a flight from Tampa through Philly to Elmira Regional for tomorrow through US Airways. I was told by US Airways that ALL flights to or through Philly are delayed by quite a bit or cancelled. About 1-2 dozen airports have the same status. Elmira Regional will be CLOSED tomorrow and quite possibly tonight and Thursday. If anyone has any flights up that way, you should reschedule for Friday or the weekend.

KYW(http://www.kyw1060.com) just said that the airport is closed as of 8PM

The City of Phila is closed tomorrow, state of emergency as of 9PM tonight.
All schools are closed.
Where I live is a state of emergency effective at 10PM (Whitpain-East Norriton Township)
KYW said Norristown is supposed to get 18-24 inches (I have 26 inches already)more

I am at work in Philly right now, nothing falling...yet. Took off the day job in NJ tomorrow,...will probably have to call out for the night job...sigh

Thanks fact for that info on the Philadelphia airport.

It seems like a lot of businesses and municipalities are being proactive and are closing everything that's non-essential. All of the administrative and other non-essential offices are closed at my casino tomorrow for the storm. The Wellness Center (clinic) also closed. I'm sure that if anyone was scheduled to work tomorrow they were told to pack a bag like they did over the weekend. It's saving them $$ because of the vacation time everyone has to use, but it also relieves the stress on the employees on deciding whether to call out tomorrow.

We were doing about the same business as last year at the same time but this past weekend totally screwed us up. This coming holiday weekend is big and we're hoping that people will be so snow-bound that they are going to want to get out of their house.

Governor Christie of New Jersey FINALLY signed a State of Emergency for 7 counties in the southern part of the state. He's probably going to have to do it again after tomorrow's storm.

It started here before 7:30pm. It wasn't sticking right away because the ground was still warm. Marty is now going to the gym - if it's open. He likes going late and he likes to take chances. *SIGH*

NWS Baltimore Washington Update 3 p.m.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
-- Changed Discussion --
STRONG UPPER-LEVEL LOW IN THE NORTHERN BRANCH OF THE JET IS ROTATING
THROUGH THE MIDWEST LATE THIS AFTERNOON WHILE LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPS
OFF THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST IN THE SOUTHERN BRANCH OF THE JET. AS THE
UPPER-LEVEL LOW MOVES INTO THE REGION TONIGHT...LOW PRESSURE WILL
RAPIDLY INTENSIFY ALONG THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST AS IT SLOWLY MOVES
NORTHWARD. THIS WILL SPREAD PRECIPITATION OVER THE REGION
TONIGHT...MAINLY IN THE FORM OF SNOW. THERE WILL BE ENOUGH WARM AIR
DRAWN INTO THE SYSTEM FOR A MIXTURE OF RAIN/SLEET AND SNOW...MAINLY
ACROSS LOWER SOUTHERN MARYLAND.

THE DRY SLOT WILL WORK ITS WAY INTO THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE CWA
TOWARD WEDNESDAY MORNING CAUSING ANY PRECIPITATION TO BE LIGHT.
HOWEVER...AS THE LOW CONTINUES TO RAPIDLY INTENSIFY WEDNESDAY
MORNING...THE DEFORMATION ZONE WILL SET UP OVER THE NORTHEASTERN
HALF OF THE CWA...BRINGING HEAVY SNOW TO THIS AREA. SNOW WILL SLOWLY
TAPER OFF WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AS THE LOW PULLS AWAY. WILL CONTINUE
WITH THE WINTER STORM WARNING ACROSS OUR CWA WITH THE HIGHEST
AMOUNTS AROUND NORTH-CENTRAL MARYLAND INTO THE BALTIMORE
METROPOLITAN AREA. STRONG WINDS WILL ALSO DEVELOP WEDNESDAY AS THE
LOW INTENSIFIES. A WIND ADVISORY MAY BE WARRANTED ACROSS THE ENTIRE
CWA FOR WIND GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH. STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE WITH SNOW
AND BLOWING SNOW TO PRODUCE NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS...ESPECIALLY
FOR LOCATIONS NORTH AND EAST OF WASHINGTON DC.

Heavy snow is falling and blowing and winds are up to about 20 mph here with stronger gusts to 30 maybe more, visibility already reduced to a couple hundred feet. Ice chunks are falling from the house against the windows due to the wind. Accumulation maybe 5 inches yesterday and overnight. A hired utility crew is down the street taking down an uprooted tree leaning against an electricity pole. Big hopes they will succeed before the wires go.

This is a very dangerous situation. No one is going outside today here. I highly doubt we will keep electricity and it may be a long time before we get it back. :(

Good luck fellow Mid-Atlantic weather watchers.

We had about 6 inches of snow overnight and it had changed over to rain. Within the past half hour it started to change back to sleet and now the snow is falling.

The first batch of snow is really heavy. There are some trees and shrubs that bent over from the weight of it. As the temps drop, they will probably stay like that. This new round will contain lighter snow, but the wind will start - I think that this storm is potentially more dangerous than Saturday's and December 19th's.

I'm home from work today and I really can't imagine me being able to get out tomorrow to get there at least on time. Fox 29 news meteorologist John Bolaris hinted at another possible storm on Monday??? Someone shoot me now!
