North and South Carolina Winter Thread 2010-2011

#1 Postby Lowpressure » Mon Dec 06, 2010 11:21 am

As a few have pointed out, the Carolinas are not usually considered deep south. Since there was no thread for the Carolinas, there is one now. Feel free to post here on winter weather in North and South Carolina.

Keeping an eye on Saturday and Sunday with above average model agreement to be 6 days out.

It still looks like the atmospheric profile will not be supporting snow in the GSP area next weekend. It's worth keeping an eye on though as we get closer to the weekend.

Winter storm warnings have been posted for virtually all of North Carolina and the upstate of South Carolina. Winter Storm watch has been posted for much of the SC midlands including the Columbia area. Winter Weather advisories are now into effect for much of the remainder of SC, including interior area of the Low country within the NWS Charleston weather forecast area.

This is shaping up to be a memorable winter storm event throughout the Carolinas. Charlotte and Raleigh in particular look to get some substantial snow accumulations. Feel free to keep us updated on the conditions throughout the Carolinas for those of you living throughout the region.

PIcs from eralier in the day yesterday. ended up getting around 7.5 inches in Old Fort, NC. Please tell me that this new years heat wave coming up will be the only one i want many more good snowfalls :)
Who thinks accuweather is wrong about the Carolina's having a mild winter, or who at least hopes they are?!

Hey those are beautiful photos I live in High Point NC and here around the north side of town we got 6in of snow. As for the coming weekend 1/1/11 yes looks like a warm one (or at least warmer than this weekend) and about Accuweather winter forecast, I still think that there will be milder times ahead for us here in the SE at least (although NC could see more CAD events Cold Air Damming) but over all for the first week of Jan warm to start then another cool down BUT prob not as cold as this Dec has been.

The first part of next week (January 10 - 12) looks to be another chance for a major winter storm. Anyone watching this one, yet?

Thats near me, it could be cold and wet or warm and dry. Snow is unlikely in march.

So how is this going to play out in NC. I live in Statesville which is North of Charlotte. According to the mets out of Charlotte they are calling on just a MIX on Monday. Well last night they mentioned North of Charlotte may get snow. I was wondering if anyone knows where the snow line is in NC. Our local mets seem to be like if it doesn't affect the city of Charlotte then it's not a big deal. But I read online that Statesville could have heavy accumulations. I just would like to know so I know how to prepare.
