NCEP's New Model Page

#1 Postby Ntxw » Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:14 pm

I just wanted to mention that come April, NCEP (the page we all use happily for model guidance particularly the GFS and NAM) will be under going some changes and be replaced.

The new format will take some time getting used to but it seems very user friendly relatively. Some notable changes is that the GFS and NAM now will have 3 hour intervals instead of 6 which will be very nice! Adding to that NAM will also have the surface temps (10m) along with precip like the GFS.

It will also load at the speed in which some people benefit from pay sites which is sooner than the rest of us as of now. Mess around with the experimental version and hopefully we'll all adjust accordingly!

They still update the same (4x). The time between frames (currently it's 6 hours between frames, will be in more detailed to 3). Example now it starts at 00 and then shows hr 06, will be come 00 initialize to hr 03, then 06 etc etc.

I think means that every new run that comes out every 3 hours sommeone will stay up to post or something like that.

Oh, I see what you mean. So no more runs but much more detailed. That will help a lot next winter when we wonder if precip is still going on before/during/after freezing events.
