It's REALLY GREAT to see all of the snow you are getting this year. I know that there have been many in the past that have left you all high and dry in the summer. Good luck and have fun!

It's really been going strong this evening. Just shoveled another fresh few inches...def getting up toward 18 now....knee deep. East of Stapleton seems to really drop off. Guessing out there is still near a foot...west side of town should be coming up close to 2 feet now with the radar hammering west of I-25 for the past few hours.

0z nam still squeezing out close to another half inch over the metro...which would be as much as 10 more with temps this low. Wouldn't Be surprised to see some 25 inch amounts around the western and southern edges inside 470...highlands ranch (presumably pretty far south and west highlands ranch) already has a 26 inch report. Castle rock will prolly pick up more tonight, but so far only showing around 18.

Just checked gfs and 0z showing around .25 inch or about 5 inches and lingering trough lunch tomorrow... Of course not putting much stock in it as it was wrong to begin with especially over foothills and west side of metro, just interesting to see its hanging I toward lunch now.

Interesting part of the shoveling was how different the snow was each time. Started off with small flakes, then larger and a little wetter during the day. Last shovel was much drier. One thing is for sure. I'd rather shovel 18" of winter snow than 8" of wet March snow. That's a back breaker.

Most places in and around town will be around 20". The official reading will be around 15" since the airport is far to the east.

Check out the 50" reading near Pinecliffe!

Yep...I'm 20 inches here...still lightl snowing.

It's amazing how much time of the year make a difference in the impact on roads, etc. I think much has to do with the snow rates too. Like in the blizzard of 06 it hit on solstice so we were at our minimal sun all year and the snow rates were much higher. We got 8 inches just in the first few hours of work that morning. I think in hindsight that's why it was such a higher impact. It just snowed so hard they couldn't keep up and it was cold enough that every flake stuck. This was like 20 inches in a 36 hour period...that was 30 in more like a 24 hour period with more wind. This felt like the 08 October blizzard with slightly higher impact on travel.

In the end I think the snow rate has a bigger effect on overall impact that anything else and that 2006 storm for me is hard to top...I think probably the closest ones, I did not live here for and that would have been Christmas 82 and march 03, as all 3 literally shut down the city for 2 days...this is beautiful but it's just not quite there, and that's fine. When it's gets that bad it has such a huge impact on people, that I'm not saying I would want it.

One last bit...I do think it's a good idea shut school down so early in the gkeep cause it kept folks off the road the next morning. When kids are home parents usually are too. I have no doubt buses would ave gotten around yesterday....but I know in 06 part of the problem was it wasn't taken seriously...everybody went to work and it hit hard by 9 and people were stranded on highways for hours and hours. It certainly looked like this had that kind of potential. So bravo to to the city's and cdot...this could have been worse.

Nice zoomed map in the link below. Seams pretty accurate as I'm right at the 22" contour, and that was my final measurement.

Was surprised at the melting later on in the day though. Should be a lot more melting tomorrow.

Very nice write up regarding the storm, which ended up being the largest ever recorded in Denver for February.

So I was out of town for this one....and will have to cheat a bit for my season-long snowfall tally. Looks like most of the monitoring stations around Fort Collins were in the 11" range. So I'll go with that......giving us 45" for the season-to-date. Actually had a dusting last night as well, but not enough to measure.

Some quick bookkeeping - a light and fluffy 2" + in Fort Collins last night bring our STD total to 47."

Well DIA offical obs for the season so far is 52.5 inches. Thats getting close to our normal for the whole season and we still have March and April to go. next couple of weeks looks fairly typical of february with dryness, but we'll see how it plays out. after November went dud I didnt have much hope for this winter, but it has redeemed itself nicely. Here in Downtown, I would have to go back through all my posts for to get my count by I think 60 + is a reasonable guess as to where Im at now...One of these days will start keeping "real records" but I dont care "that"much  . If April and March came out normal we could end the season near 70-80 inches. We are still the only city in the contiguous that has above normal snow for the year(except maybe Seattle).

PTP - we're at 47, and it seems like Denver and the suburbs south and/or west of Denver have been consistently getting more than us, and in a few instances, significantly more than us. So I'd also take the 60+" bet.

This morning was probably the worst commute of the season - worse than the 20" storm. No one quite expected this, as the roads were untreated and travel was a nightmare.

Shoveling the snow reminded me of a wet spring storm. The snow was very heavy.

Yeah think it was all very dependant on location as far as the commute difficulty. Downtown seemed to get out from under the band about an hour earlier than the rest of the neighborhoods to the south. We were getting hammered at around 530: but it let up quite a bit at 6:30. So my commute was not bad at all, the sun peaked out right as I was going to work at 730 and the roads even were melting pretty quickly...that was while littleton and Cenntennial were still getting hammered. I ended up with 4.5 inches at my house...of course it probably helped my drive in that many people were kind of immobilized down south and west for a bit, the roads just didnt seem to have many people on them.

Definately well over 60 inches here for the year now, and probably approaching 70 pretty quickly. DIA is already up 55.
