First below 0F of the season?

#1 Postby Scott Patterson » Sun Oct 30, 2011 7:42 pm

Our first zero temperature could be coming soon.

Right now it is predicted that in town it will reach 5F:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 107.55&e=1

Friday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 34.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 41.

Sinceon clear nights, we are often 2-7F colder than downtown (with 3-5F being most common), it might be possible that the temperature could drop to zero or possibly below.

I have only been in below zero twice in my life. Once when I was a kid after a snowstorm in Virginia Beach, Va and once while camping a few years ago in the mountains of NC. That was a very cold night. :cold:

The winter before last, I counted 69 below zero mornings. I didn't count them last winter. Sometimes it drops below zero here, even in April.

It looks like we have a chance of dropping close to zero (or perhaps below) in the outskirts of town. Here's the forecast for downtown:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 107.55&e=1

Tonight: Snow showers. Low around 18. West wind around 15 mph becoming north northeast. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 33. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 6. East southeast wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 48. East wind 10 to 15 mph becoming south southwest.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 22. South southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56.

Friday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers before midnight, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 8.

Right now it's snowing hard, but once the weather clears, it's going to get cold at night.

4F is predicted for downtown tonight. I think there is a good chance that we drop below zero on the outskirts or outside town.

It didn't make it down to zero yesterday. It was 5F at the house and officially 8F downtown.

This morning is much warmer with a warm wind (it's 27F outside!). When it's this warm in the morning, it can only mean one thing; an approaching storm.

We still haven't had our first below zero temperatures of the season, but it looks like that might change tonight or tomorrow night:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 107.55&e=1

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. Calm wind becoming west northwest around 5 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 0. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 33. South southeast wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -1. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Right now it's a very warm (for November) 22F, but it's supposed to cool down.
