Mid Atlantic Winter 2011-2012

Well, almost all of the leaves are down and next week is Thanksgiving already. To say that I'm not ready for this is an understatement. "Normally" when we had an extreme winter, it was followed by calmer ones with lower snowfall totals. I don't even know what normal is after the past two winters and summers for that matter. Any thoughts on our winter here in the Mid Atlantic?

NOW it feels more like Christmas. Temperatures were in the 40's. This morning the temperature was in the 20's. It's supposed to warm up to 50 again before we get more rain by the end of the week.

Accuweather is saying snow for the morning of the 27th, sigh, rather it be on the 25th

I have read Don Sutherland's posts elsewhere. East coast basically warm until at least Jan. 10. With Don you can bank on it.

He's REALLY GOOD. I'd bank on his forecasts anytime. Hope to see him pop in here again during the Winter.

Texas2Florida - Last December's blizzard was an aberration. We MAY get a few inches of snow in December. This past October was not only an early snow but a record. Most of our snow comes January - March. We've had whole months where there's no snow. However, you may have the opportunity to experience ice storms up here. Now, THOSE are fun....

Score another hit for Don. Looks like the people in the northern MA may catch the edge of the Arctic front from the rising heights over the Bering Sea push the PV south. But once that retrogrades into Siberia I think we could be in for an epic torch to close out January for the MA. About 1 -2 inches of snow and icy slush from this storm. It's only going to about 33 degrees today, so I'm more than happy to stay in and be a lazy lump for the day.

I thought it would be all melted by now. It's stayed colder than originally thought. It's hard to believe that it's going to be 55 degrees tomorrow.

Verification on the end of January torch, here is the last 10 days of the month. Down here in DC we got it, north it was a bit cooler, but still pretty warm just about everywhere in the 48.

Snow surprised us last night when some heavier bands came through. It reminded me of some of the snow storms of the past two years, that's how hard it was coming down. We had maybe an inch or two.

We may get a touch of snow this President's Day weekend, but it looks like the heaviest wil be to the south and west of us. I have to hand it to February, there's usually some kind of snow event on President's Day weekend. I've taken more notice of it since I've been in the casino business for the past 16 years. It's a big weekend since it's a long one and for Atlantic City, this is the slow period so there's usually a lot riding on this. I'm in PA now, so the trend is a bit different.

I'm just curious to see if Ma Nature has something up her sleeve for March. I think that 1993 was a rather slow year until the Superstorm showed up on March 13. Can't let your guard down, but BOY AM I GLAD we're getting closer to Spring. I want leaves, birds singing and warm, sunny weather.

I know what you mean, we have had President Day snowstorms before and its been so mild that I can't help thinking of March 1993, I remember that so clear, on the 9th I had to go and check my trailer that I used to have at a campground, the owner called and said there was a branch thru the roof, I went and there was a branch, put a cooler underneath it, went back after all that snow and the trailer was ruined, I will never forget it, Philly was a total mess too.

The CFSv2 has had the super hot hand this winter, they must have done some serious tweeks.



1993 was a Nino year, the Nina is killing us this year.
