I'm thinking that its going to get pretty cold pretty fast, with ice blanketing the roads then 3-5 big snow storms.
this is a prediction from past winters and how current conditions match those of epic winters

First big fall front moving in towards the weekend. Forecast high for Sallisaw on Saturday is 54 with a low in the mid-to-upper 30's.

Thoughts on the 18Z GFS showing very light snow in northern Oklahoma around 90 hours?

I'm really getting tired of this warm dry weather! Is there a change coming anytime soon?

Weather man has been advertising a big system in about 7 to 8 days. Says highs will drop into the lower 40's.

Models have been hinting at possibly first snows for Oklahoma to the Red River with the next system.

With lack of snow cover in the central US, a deep enough trough is not likely to happen. I was pointing out the chance was there based on yesterday's runs and can still happen if a cutoff low decides to come out of it.

With all this warm weather Oklahoma is getting is there any chance of seeing a cold weather event this year or season where we could see a significant amount of snow or ice. I prefer snow but I will take either right now.

I can look at winter weather models all day and still not really understand them like I can spring models.

Guys, you better get ready! Change a coming next week, model agreement this far out is incredible. Both GFS and EURO showing a flat out blizzard Christmas night and the day afterwards. According to the GFS, Eastern Oklahoma may need to measure with a yard stick instead of a ruler. :froze:

I think we are all just scared it isn't gonna happen! I've been down this road before only to have my chances of a blizzard fizzle away! I will say that the track of this storm is "eerily similar" to the blizzard of 2011 here in Tulsa, OK. Trying not to hang on every model, but when should we have a better feel for this storm? 5 days out...3 days out? Better yet...when is the cold supposed to arrive? SNOW GODS....PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN! :ggreen:

TSA Tulsa NWS:

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLANNING STATEMENT...
LATEST LONGER RANGE NUMERICAL SOLUTIONS SUGGEST THE POTENTIAL
FOR A SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER EVENT SOMEWHERE IN THE PLAINS
OR MISSISSIPPI VALLEY ON THE 25TH OR 26TH.

A GREAT DEAL OF UNCERTAINTY EXISTS IN HOW THIS WINTER WEATHER
EVENT WILL ACTUALLY UNFOLD. AT THIS POINT IN TIME...EMERGENCY
PREPAREDNESS PERSONNEL SHOULD MONITOR FUTURE FORECASTS FOR POSSIBLE
WINTER WEATHER IMPACTS FOR OUR REGION.

OKC NWS:

A RAPIDLY EVOLVING UPPER STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE ROCKIES
EARLY NEXT WEEK NEAR CHRISTMAS EVE. THE STORM THEN APPEARS IT
WILL MOVE ACROSS PORTIONS OF KANSAS...OKLAHOMA...AND TEXAS LATE
CHRISTMAS NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY. SNOWFALL WILL ACCOMPANY THIS
STORM SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE EXACT
SNOWFALL AMOUNTS AND THE PRECISE TIMING OF THE SYSTEM...SOME
LOCATIONS COULD EXPERIENCE WHITE OUT OR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.
TRAVEL MAY BECOME TREACHEROUS LATE CHRISTMAS NIGHT AND THE DAY
AFTER CHRISTMAS...ESPECIALLY ACROSS PORTIONS OF OKLAHOMA. BE
PREPARED TO HAVE YOUR TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS CANCELLED OR CHANGED
FOR THE UPCOMING HOLIDAY. MONITOR THE LATEST UPDATES FROM THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AS MORE ACCURATE INFORMATION BECOMES
AVAILABLE LATER THIS WEEK.

Yeah somebody in Oklahoma is going to get hammered, right now it seems the eastern half of the state is the best place.
