Woke up this morning with a small glaze on surfaces, but temps quickly got above freezing. Lucky temps hovered at 33-34 for almost the entire event, as we got over 2.50 inches of rain. 1-2 degrees colder and we would have had a major problem.

I've seen some pictures from Central and NE Oklahoma and they got hit pretty hard.

A warm up should be coming in the next two days until yet another cold blast comes in about New Years. That front looks dry according to the GFS, though by about 240 hours a Winter Storm approaches Oklahoma dropping Snow.

VERY strong front coming in on Sunday night.

Snow will fall Saturday night/Sunday morning and a reinforcing shot of cold air comes in Sunday night.

High for Monday is forecasted at 16 degrees with 10-15 MPH wind. Brutal is an understatement.

NWS underestimated this system, as they usually do. Measures .35 inches of ICE on the trees. No wind though, so no power outages.

Looks like Snow maybe making it's return early next week after a series of brutally cold dry fronts.

An interesting week for sure, the potential for 3-4 winter precipitation events over the next 7 days. Most precip tonight looks to be concentrated in the eastern portion of the state and appears to be -RA/FZRA. The sunday morning event looks like a good chance for some moderate snowfall over the southern portion of the state. The Tuesday event looks like mainly cold rain for most of the state, with possible snow in the north. Models then show very cold temperatures the remainder of the immediate forecast period, with potential disturbances bringing more winter precip.

This is so typical. Whenever I am leaving to go to out of town on business, the winter weather shows up. Well, at least I will be able to add my two cents to the Caribbean thread from Trinidad and Tobago....

GFS and NAM had been trending south with the Sunday system, but the 0z package brings it back up north and increases the totals for southern/eastern OK.

Tulsa NWS believe the Tuesday system could be a big winter storm.

A MORE SIGNIFICANT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO MOVE THROUGH
THE REGION MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY. PRECIPITATION LOOKS TO
INITIALLY START AS FREEZING RAIN MIXING WITH SLEET ACROSS SOUTHEAST
OKLAHOMA AND A WINTRY MIX FOR NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA INTO NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS. SOME LOCATIONS COULD EXPERIENCE MORE SIGNIFICANT ICE
ACCUMULATIONS BEFORE PRECIPITATION TRANSITIONS TO SNOW AND SLEET.

I think the precip.type in Tuesday's event will depend heavily on the amount of remaining snowcover from Sunday's event. If the event drops a significant amount of snow, that can survive the brief warm-up on Monday it would likely cause sfc. temps to remain fairly low improving the chances of frozen precip on Tuesday. A challenging next couple of days for forecasters, however, if you believe the GFS and Euro the mid-extended range looks easier considering parts of the state could be below freezing for nearly an entire week.

Yeah far southeast OK looks like they may have some ice accumulation problems tomorrow. Also some places in SW OK could see > 6 inches of snow, depending on where the high precip band sets up. I have to say for personal reasons I wouldn't mind it creeping northward a bit.

Looking at the model trends at the onset of this event coming in tomorrow, it could be a big surprise to some. The 2-4 estimates might be a little conservative at this point. NWS actually has upped the totals here in the past hours, now 3-5 widespread.

The GFS and NAM also continue to increase totals, the 6z NAM has a widespread 6-8 inch band spreading from Northwest Texas up to Northwest Arkansas.
