Not sure what you're seeing PTracker but this is our forecast for that time period.

Wednesday- A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60.
Wednesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 39.
Thursday- Sunny, with a high near 58.
Thursday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.
Friday- A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59.

PTracker was referencing the GFS and it sounds like you are quoting the NWS. The NWS would change that forecast if they think the GFS is on to something.

Looks like this week was just a "false spring." GFS indicates we could see upper 20's by Thursday morning with potentially back to back freezes. Then possibly more freezing weather mardi gras week. I think the trees know as well as very very few are even budding at this point. I can remember some "winters" where pollen was everywhere by now. I'm just happy today is absolutely gorgeous after a good rain last night!

The old saying that I remember was to watch the pecan trees - when they start to bud, then winter cold is over.

What about the Japanese Magnolia's, LaBreeze? Mine is in full bloom. But CJ from KTDY has said years ago and it's always held true that there will be one more good cold snap before Easter. We'll see if it happens this year.

CM, the Japanese magnolia's are in full bloom everywhere around here as well. It's a beautiful burst of color amongst everything else that's dormant.

I actually had to mow grass yesterday. Those huge clover patches were driving me nuts scattered around like leopard spots throughout my winter brown lawn. I must admit that I think it's the first time I've gotten chilled mowing grass in Louisiana. Nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass to round off this false spring.

Woke up around 5:20am to thunder rumbling so deep my bed vibrated. Now I'm ready to go back to sleep with the constant sound of steady rain on this metal roof. Now this kind of weather could make for a lazy Sunday. LOL

Well not a ice storm but a hail storm hit us this morning. Parts of our parish got hit pretty good. Marble to nickel size seems to be the rule. Woke up to the sound of it pounding my aluminum boat port and slamming into our bedroom windows. Will try and go back to sleep now but will post some pics later on this morning.

We had a storm with a possible tornado (so they're saying I think it was straight line winds) go through a small portion of Lafayette this morning probably around 9:15 or a little before. I'm in a Mardi Gras krewe and we leave our floats at Cajunfield overnight after the parade. Well this storm came through and flipped over one float demolishing it, rammed other floats into each other damaging them. Luckily the guys on the cleaning crew were not injured. If you have fb you can view KATC's page and they have pics of the damage. My husband was on his way to Cajunfield when the storm came through. Sorry to hear people had trouble with the storms but it helped me to sleep wonderfully! Haven't slept that well in a long time.

Just to update, been a long day at work, hail sizes were up to 1.5 in in certain areas. It was localized but we ended up getting a short burst of at least quarter if not a little bigger. I wasn't going out in it at 5:30, was too cold and pouring rain.

Well the 12z Euro shows 3-4 inches of snow for the area and the GFS shows a low of 27 Mardi Gras night with frozen precip not far to our north Mardi Gras day. Not buying it at all but wow.

I will take the snow, please. Isn't that only a week off? That's not exactly long range but isn't close enough to bank on it, for sure. It could be cold or it could be 65.

Nobody fall for the euros tricks. Remember it kept showing south LA getting pounded with snow the last two storms and conditions were much better aligned then they are now. Plus we never received a flake or even half the amount of ice for that matter. Euro has done horrible this winter for us. Maybe it will redeem itself during hurricane season because I sure don't want to have to rely on the cmc or gfs

Sorry, been away from the computer for a few days. Not sure about the Japanese Mags. I guess we'll get the cold snap this week and let's hope that will be it.

Below is a link to snow events in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, McComb, and Biloxi.

There has not been measurable snow in Baton Rouge in March, though there have been trace events. One that I remember is the March 22-23 1968 event. It stayed above freezing, but it did snow off and on for both days with big flakes.

That's true. Pecan trees are the last trees to leaf out each year. They're smart. 00Z Euro and 06Z GFS are trending less cold for next week. I still think central Houston has seen its last freeze of this winter.

Wow CM!! The pics don't show a lot, but I don't see any evidence of tornadic winds in them. Thank goodness no one was injured!!

We had heavy rain overnight and ended up with 1.25" for the last 24 hours. That is about the same amount as we have had so far this year altogether. Looks like we will have more rain later today with a disturbance coming in from the West base on current radar. WE NEED IT!! The current trend back into drought is NOT GOOD!! Currently 46f with the temps expected to trend down during the day or stay steady. UGH!!

Ryan Maue posted some ensembles for next week showing about 30 degrees below normal. That is really cold.
