Now up to 33.4 at my house but were did reach 32.5 during the heavy thunderstorm. Officially 33 the airport right now http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... vroPkJdWgk . There's some heavier precipitation about to come through but not really expecting to see freezing rain here...to the north will be a different story. This is literally the most lightning and thunder I've experienced in months which tells me there is a TON of energy and moisture with this system. This will be a devastating storm for the Southeastern USA.
The good news is I'm over 1.25" of rain for the day with more falling right now. We are starting to build quite the deficit since Dec 1 and just entered severe drought which is hard to believe since my yard has seemingly stayed soggy (or frozen ).

Yep I would like to see at least a small icicle on the trees in the morning . It would officially make this the 4th winter precip event this season which I'd bet money has not happened in recorded history here more than once or twice!

We have a lot more rain coming than you guys do in Laffy I think. Temperatures are lower than expected right now and they will only drop as the night goes on. I wouldn't write things off for you guys in Laffy yet though. Looking at a lot of weather maps and stuff convection will be blowing up overnight.

32 degrees here and still raining. Lightning and thunder was abundant - no ice for use though it seems. It does sound like light ice pellets falling however.

Sorry to say but the temps are not going to drop around here tonight and we will not see any winter precip. Read the afternoon discussion, they explain it pretty good. Basically as the low cranks up it will pump more warm air northward just above the surface and the cold air is really really shallow. But as others have said it is pretty cool to be experiencing a thunderstorm while it is this cold.

Now 32.3 and the rain has ended. Maybe a light mist but not enough to coat anything. Our high was 39f.

How can I find out where this winter ranks in terms of cold for Baton Rouge?

Looks like this week was just a "false spring." GFS indicates we could see upper 20's by Thursday morning with potentially back to back freezes. Then possibly more freezing weather mardi gras week. I think the trees know as well as very very few are even budding at this point. I can remember some "winters" where pollen was everywhere by now. I'm just happy today is absolutely gorgeous after a good rain last night!
