Models too warm for snow, but it still bears watching. Today will be wet and windy making low 50s seem pretty cold.

Lots of steady, moderate rain across Houston. About 1.5" on average across the city. No severe weather, so that's good. Locations east of us along the Gulf Coast won't fare so well today.

I think that the 384hr GFS finally has a great handle on what will happen in March:

Huge bust on the strength of the surface low in our area so far. Still strong at around 1001-1002 MB, but it was expected to be 994 MB rolling through Houston.

It's a pretty thin line of storms and moving fast. Not much rain out of it, unfortunately.

Makes me kind of wonder if an April 2011 kind of day is shaping up?

Most schools in South LA are closed and it's pretty ridiculous for an enhanced risk of severe storms. Not trying to get all political but this is the epitome of the pussification of America. Never in all my years of school did we ever get days cancelled due to the "potential" of bad weather. The day before Andrew made landfall we were in school. Could go on and on and not even talking about walking to school in the middle of a blizzard in 3 feet of snow :D

In this day and age of our litigious society, what do you expect? It is the same reason why schools close if/when marginal winter weather conditions exist. All it takes is one lawsuit which gains ground in court and you and your fellow Louisianans will be paying out your nose for decades.

Anyone hear from hriverajr? I know Del Rio got hammered last night with storms and some very large hail.

Meanwhile, I am so pleased to report the Portastorm Weather Center in scenic southwest Travis County received about 1.4" of liquid gold between midnight and 5 am. Finally ... a verified forecast!

Argh ... I did the very thing which annoys me as a moderator ... didn't read the last page or two entirely. Sorry gang.

Oh well. Back to the Year without Winter or as titled in southeast Texas: The Winter of Wxman57.

Just for you, Portrastorm - you're own GFS meteogram for Austin. Great news, I see some sub-freezing temps this week - dewpoint temps. A little more rain next Tuesday, perhaps.

Why thank you, sir. :D

You are most kind. I always prefer a meteogram with rain in it as compared to a candy-gram.

I probably got about 1.25" total from yesterday through this morning. Good soaking for the yard. No sign of any really cold weather across Texas over the next couple of weeks, just a little below normal at times, but a lot above normal at other times. Next Tuesday is looking really nice.
