At least I saw maybe a 1/4 inch of snow when I was home in Kansas for a few days around Christmas. Overall, I'm happy with winter despite no big events IMBY. Nice and cold often.

This recent wet pattern has been nice. Today looks more promising for bigger totals, and I already got more today than yesterday, so it's all good.

We haven’t gotten near the rain that y’all have further SE but hopefully the rain we have gotten with the combination of ice and sleet will help pull us out of the extreme and sever drought classifications.

from a DFW perspective I'm still pretty disappointed with the winter overall due to the lack of snow, I know our turn will come soon, but it was hard to watch seemingly everyone else to the south and east get snow and our now 73 year record streak continue. Yes I am glad we didnt torch all winter and what not(and I'm so glad the drought has been severely wiped out) but there was still something lacking

It was a weird winter in general to me, lack of snow in a lot of places I figured would get it to our north, and if you had told me the cold would be consistent and still not really snow I never would have expected that

Lot of moments I want to forget(pretty much every snowstorm we missed)

But seeing snow in my favorite city NYC 10 days ago pretty much made the winter for me honestly

For me here in Austin it was a great winter. Snow and colder than average temps. Only had to run AC one time :D

SW ATX had the best winter since 2011. We deserved it. 6 years of waiting patiently . 2 memorable snows and 3 overall minor ice events. What topped it off was the 4” snow in NYC. I hope next winter is even better and for the entire state! The panhandle had the worst winter. Forget snow, no rain even !

Yeah for us in south TX, it was a great winter with a few rounds of snow and ice. It had been years since the last big event here! And after dealing with Harvey, I feel like we deserved that beautiful snowy sight. Bring on a wet spring!

What is the timing on these storms? We've already had showers pass through today dumping another 0.58" on us in my hood.

This evening sometime around or after 6pm-9pm. DFW picked up a bit more now 0.45" from record. Solid line has formed out west near Abilene that will move east

Are any discreet cells projected to form out in front of this line as it gets closer to I35?

Mesoscale Discussion 0099
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0213 PM CST Wed Feb 28 2018

Areas affected...North TX

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely

Valid 282013Z - 282245Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent

SUMMARY...New thunderstorm development is possible this afternoon
eastward from the Texas Big Country across North Texas, with some
increase in storm intensity/severe potential by early evening for
isolated hail and strong, gusty winds.

DISCUSSION...Trends in GOES-16 visible imagery indicated an increase
in cumulus/towering cumulus development along the dry line since
around 1830Z, where a northeast-southwest oriented break in cirrus
clouds allowed surface temperatures to rise through the 70s. The dry
line was analyzed early this afternoon from central/southwest OK
through the TX Big Country to southwest TX. Recently, an area of
cirrus clouds moved across the dry line development and further may
temper heating and vertical cloud development. However, any
additional surface heating near and east of the dry line will aid
destabilization, while height falls occur with the approach of the
Southwest states upper trough, suggesting the potential for
additional convective development. MUCAPE around 1000 J/kg and
strong shear suggest storm organization will be likely, given a
sustained updraft. However, this potential may be delayed until
early evening with the arrival of the stronger ascent with the
trough, when the threat for hail and/or strong, gusty winds would be
greater.

Looks like some kind of outflow boundary or front is moving northerly and generating storms in the Metroplex.

Personally, it was one of the worst winters ever. Too much dry cold that was just wasted and pure misery without any snow. The missed events and 14 flurries I saw added insult to injury.

But I've been working in Florida for the past 2 weeks and they are wrapping up their hottest February on record. Mid to high 80's since I got here and it's felt very nice. Hoping for the same when I get back to NTX in 2 weeks, just in time for spring break. Winter--over it. Bring on the spring storms!

Is there any sign of anymore cold weather for us? I had read that the first part of March would be chilly. Don’t know if that’s still the case.

Chalk another Winter outlook success up to the "Halloween Anology" this La Nina was cooler/wetter for much of Texas this year, which sure as hell beats what we had the last 2 winters...

Oh, and let's give props when do, wxman57 came through on his promiss for most!! However  He still owes DFW, so at some point next winter we are going to come collecting on that :ggreen: :ggreen:

You're welcome about the snow and cold this winter, but next winter is MINE! :firedevil:

Puhleeze! Winter doesn’t belong to you, never has, never will. After years of making some here believe that you were behind the Wizard’s curtain controlling the buttons and dials, we finally saw through the charade this year.

You’re like the Abominable Snowman in “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”...without teeth!!!

In other words, “we aren’t scared!” :D
