Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
Just woke up for a snow check........YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!! We have snow falling across the Houston-Galveston areas; as well as; STX and along the Middle and Upper TX Coast. The last time the coastal areas had snow was the epic 2004 Christmas Eve snow. There was thunder snow reported in Lake Jackson along the coast earlier this morning.

Safe to say a giant model bust from the Red River to the Rio Grande?

Models saw it way out. Then retracted and was not cold enough, as usual with such a pattern. Stay the course over modelology! The snow is understandable because its not as easy for guidance but no excuse for temps . I remember watching almost a week ago of model runs and model posts of DFW not even getting a freeze out of it from the GFS with 40s for lows or upper 30s in some cycles

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
If we use the Ensembles as a stepping stone, the ridge pattern in the NPO will retrograde. What this will allow is the classic bowl shaped trough over North America. Even hints of a southeast ridge. We are liable to build on the cold pattern and take course for yet potential an even colder pattern (or at least aimed better at us down the Great Plains) and including the front range.

Was just about to mention this....long range guidance is trending more favorably to a reload of Arctic Air, this time further west. It's been awhile since I've seen this kind of cold forecasted on an ENS Mean this far out - Look at where all the cold is located across the Northern Hemisphere

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
25 here this morning. Held up a bit because skies were slow to clear.
Looks like a minor front on Tuesday. Rain for next weekend. Finally cold and hopefully snow for around Christmas.
I head to my olace up in NM mountains on the 26th so hoping for good travel weather but llenty of snow up there. Some snow lined highways on the way up would be fun to get in the mood as long as roads are dry.

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
Latest update from jeff:
Moderate snow band shifting SE toward US 59 will be reaching the coast by 700am with snow ending over the region.
Accumulations on elevated surfaces of 1-2 inches will be most common with some isolated amounts of greater than 3 inches.
Surface temperatures have fallen to between 31-33 over much of the region south of HWY 105 and this has resulted in a few icy patches on area bridges and overpasses. The majority of the bridges and overpasses do not have ice, but some do. In this sort of situation treat every bridge like it may have ice and use extreme caution. Temperatures are actually rising a degree or two once the snow stops and this should help prevent any widespread significant ice on bridges and overpasses. Thus far the main issues have been along I-10 W and US 290 and along the west Beltway where some of the flyover accumulated snow. TXDOT is treating these surfaces currently.
Will likely see most snow melt by 9-10am.

Went to bed at 1am and the snow was light. Got up a few times between 1 and 7am but didn't see much outside. Looked out at 7am to the images below.
