Also if DFW gets another 2" or so, the all time wettest winter record might go down too. Training pretty hard out there at the airport.

Another heavy batch of rain coming

Not sure what is up with my weather station. Was up to over .80 and then it dropped rapidly down to .12. Strange. Maybe it mistook an emptying as a drop in rainfall? Never seen that before.

Some bad luck, a bit closer to the SE ridge and push back from the cooler air boundary. In the winter time -PNA can often benefit more the northern half of the state vs the southern half which tends to do somewhat better with a +PNA. Just a general obscure view. I often look at the I-10 corridor (or close) with linkage to the southeast US climate at times.

I've got some good rain this month, dew most mornings, and no floods. Can't complain.

If my numbers are right from the latest as of 11:53pm when the reading came out of DFW obs, today marks 4.72" of rain.

With that it is the wettest February day on record, also the wettest meteorological winter day (DJF) on record.

Feb is 11.31" (not finalized again the numbers from the obs) which is a record. The only winter month ever with double digit total.

The numbers will be finalized tomorrow morning.

With that I now bring the winter thread of 2017-2018 to a close. General discussion will now be moved to the Texas Spring Thread.

A huge Feb. 28th rainfall record to end the DJF winter season? WOW!!!!!! And with that, it’s so long to the “Texas Winter 2017-2018” thread - all 468 pages worth.

Thanks to Ntxw, Portastorm, Wxman57, and everyone else who participated. And thanks to Old Man Winter for finally delivering the wintry goods to our friends down in central and southern Texas!!!!!!

:froze: :cold: :froze:

I for one can’t wait to see what next winter brings to Texas, but for now, it’s on to spring. :D

Wow, tied for the top wettest winter ever in DFW and no measurable snow.

I think if you would have told any of us before winter that it was going to be the wettest ever and 468 pages that we would have imagined several big snow events upcoming.

Glad for the rain, I have had 11.5 inches at my house since it started last week. I may peek in a few spring threads but I know it will be next winter before I “see” many of you. Take care.

My early call for next winter:

- weak el nino
- global temp stair stepping down from super nino continues
- DFW breaks snow drought with multiple winter wx events

With DFW receiving 4.72 inches of rain yesterday, 2018 easily became the record wettest February with 11.31 inches of rain this month passing the previous record of 7.40 in 1997. For all winter months (Dec-Feb), DFW tied the record wettest winter at 16.72 inches of rain which also occurred in 1931-32.

DFW shattering that record is even more impressive in a "La Nina" winter.

DFW stats:

December: +2.6F, +2.01" precip
January: -0.1F, -1.28" precip
February: +1.2F, +8.65" precip

That was my first winter in Texas as I said in the spring thread and i had seen snowstorms in my 25 years in Alabama but that was one of the best for me. Some of the heaviest snow i had ever seen

Shame it melted so quick though
