Hour 198 (noon Christmas Eve) doesn't look too clear for that drive, but again way too far away to know what will actually be happening that day, other than Santa coming.

I would advise them to be prepared to have a change of plans. Or as usual get there ahead of time. Keep tabs on the forecast daily

The 12Z GFS suggests a long duration cold weather event with the coldest air in the Northern Hemisphere situated over most of North America.

When all is said and done, this will be the longest tracked storm/pattern change I have seen since I have signed up on this forum. As excruciating as it can be sometimes with all the model flip flopping, I am having a blast with all this. Winter is fun following this forum everyday.

The ULL on the 25th and 26th reminds me alot of 2011 when Austin and DFW received surprise snow. If the ULL takes a bit more of a southern track, it would be like the event we had last week in SE Tx. :sled:

This is exactly what I was thinking of. 2011 The double barrel low, front storm did the mess, cold came behind with the second barrel system (the infamous Cowboys Stadium avalanche).

It's messy though, I don't think the models are yet handling well the many pieces involved. Someone somewhere will see ice and snow.

While the 0z ECMWF was a fairly dry run the ensembles mean was hopeful. Lets see what 12z has

Euro looks faster than the GFS at 144, probably less of a storm

Euro also warmer next Friday, temps well above freezing everywhere

On the tail end - there's a 1058MB high coming down from Canada.

Leading to a low of 8 degrees in DFW on the 27th. :cold:

It's a long way off and models change a lot, but there are lots of signs we may be getting cold and staying that way for some time.

I haven't been able to look at surface maps of euro (on road) but looks like it has big cold end of run coming down

The reality is that Mother Nature is a fickle lady. She will either serve us up a treat "Snow" or she will pound us back to reality with a dreaded ice storm.

If it's not snow we should be happy with a nice cold Christmas day so that everyone can enjoy their families.... Even the Mother in law!!!
