Had some rain with sleet here in the part of Plano I work in. I guess this is our winter. Yay!

Soundings (real & models) indicate the freezing level over Plano is above 10,000 ft. You're likely seeing small hail there.

Makes sense. All I know is it bounced off the window/hood of my car.

Small hail in Heath this morning. Assume it was hail with limited lightning and thunder, temp was 45.

Okay, I guess it is very small hail, rather than sleet, after looking at temps.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
959 AM CST Thu Feb 21 2019

.UPDATE...

Warm air advection pattern continues this morning with isentropic
lift and elevated instability supporting showers and a few
thunderstorms over top drizzle/light rain. Coastal trough is still
off the coast with a broad area low pressure developing on it
between CRP and 42019 buoy. This pattern should continue today and
tonight with a warm front pushing north tomorrow which will bring
more wet weather to the area. Main changes to the forecast were
to update PoP/Wx/QPF based on current trends. Also updated T/Td
trends as there should not be much warming today.

THE WALL now appears to have been moved to the northern border of Texas along the Red River.....The Arctic HPs just can't get any push deep into Texas. We can only hope the models are wrong because if they're close to right, close the book on this winter and in turn, cement this 4 year stretch in DFW as the WORST in it's winter weather recorded history!!!

Reminder we have one week left in this thread. Next Friday the Spring thread will open and all discussions will migrate/be moved marking an end to meteorological winter.

I found some extra funds after I completed the Canadian/U.S. wall and I had a secondary (lower) wall built along the Red River last month. 12Z GFS pushes most of the early March cold air eastward, but that's a common error it makes if the air is really cold. I suspect it will be colder across Texas than is indicated by the 12Z GFS.

Man, it's sad when I have to be the cold-mongerer around here...

Yeah i don’t know why so much confidence is being placed on the vector of the arctic air at this point because models have gotten that wrong the most out of anything this year.

LOL ... but it is very kind of you. Maybe we'll return the favor this summer if we get some "cooler" periods where we'll post in the Texas Summer 2019 thread: "Geez, I really wish it would be 98 degrees again. I miss that warmth!" :cheesy:

The strong zonal flow across the southern half of the country will likely be indicted and charged by the S2K grand jury for the murder of the 2018-2019 Winter. wxman57 will serve as defense counsel for the zonal flow.
