TPV - The Polar Vortex

This is a good read on it.

here in Victoria we just had 6 sleet pellets hitting the ground outside. That adds up to the other 15 we saw in December... :)

12z Canadian is trending towards holding more energy back in Mexico for the system during the middle part of next week. Looks pretty similar to the FV3-GFS. I wouldn't be surprised if more models indicated this solution in the coming days due to the -PNA trend during this time.

Could lead to an increased risk of frozen precip across the state next week.

It's because the TPV wraps all of the truly brutal cold air underneath it. It's not an actualy large HP that is wide, sprawling across Canada. Actually, MLSP pressures may be surprisingly low.

This is the first time I've seen "TPV" be mentioned so much, can someone explain exactly what is it and how does it affect NTX weather?

TPV is tropospheric polar vortex, which different than the strat PV. Typically, multiple lobes of the TPV are rotating around and when one dives south it can bring record breaking cold with it.

Canadian has heavy snow in SOUTH Texas next Wednesday. Corpus Christi west along the Rio Grande. Nothing in Dallas-Ft. Worth. I'm sure it'll verify...

Perhaps your confidence in it verifying will bring it north to DFW......

Enough to call it an official snowfall for the day? I've got a bet to win.

Honestly, I think the TPV has robbed our winter. As long as that baby stays in place the way it is, I don’t really see us getting that cold here. It will stay up in the midwest and northeast just pinwheeling around sending us glancing blows. Next week just appears to be a bit of a stronger glancing blow lol

Yep, no snow at all for Texas next week as per the 12Z Euro. Mid to upper 20s for lows in the D-FW area next Tuesday. That's your winter for next week. South Texas Storms (sitting next to me) is threatening to jump off a bridge after work. He's a cold-mongerer, like my long-time coworker also sitting next to my cubicle.
