I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing any accumulating snow tonight. GFS indicates steady warming in the lower levels as the night progresses. Hard to get snow with increasing low-level advection of warm air.

My dead perennials I trimmed back in November after the hard freeze, along with the existing evergreen hedge bushes, have new leaves growing on them.

My rose bushes also have new leaf growth and buds coming out.

My small olive tree has had little white, fragrant flowers for the past few weeks or so. That has bloomed in past Winters also, only to get refrozen in March.

Also, in the parking lot of Great Wolf Lodge up in Grapevine last week, I noticed green buds on a deciduous Oak tree.

It is January 21st, a month into Winter. Totally not normal.

Anyway, my yard (and plants in Grapevine at least.lol) thinks Winter is over. I've noticed subtleties on a local/regional level of the trees losing leaves/plants dying back later in Fall/early Winter, and budding/blooming sooner with each passing season.

Based on my own personal observations, comparing those observations from even five years ago, back to when I was a little boy, it appears the Winter dormancy period is gradually shrinking over time. Bummer!

Another part of me wishes this were a freak meteorological anomaly. Of course that gets harder to do when you see the same trends play out year after year.

Don’t want to be the boy who cries wolf, or in this case climate change, but I’m interested to study if this string of boring, underperforming, snowless winters are still lingering effects of the 2015 Super El Niño, or part of a larger scale crisis, or just another case of bad luck. I’m not educated enough to have a formidable opinion, but I can only hope to get more educated to understand why this is happening, how it’s happening, and if we can ever expect good snow in DFW consistently again in the future.

No, just 366 hrs out. Remember 366 hrs ago we were going to be in a deep freeze all this week with sub-freezing highs after the big snow storm? Yeah, you can trust the 366 hr GFS.

Same here. My Mexican petunias are starting to sprout out of the ground, oaks are starting to put small buds on and the livestock’s coats are starting to slowly thin which is about 2 months too early. Strange times.

That's what I have! Mexican Petunias. :) I just googled it. Exact same thing. I was trying to figure out what those purple flowers in the ground in Summer are called. They all froze back in November and I cut them back. Green shoots out of the ground on mine also. They spread like crazy! I have had to periodically dig them up in places because they take over the entire bed if you don't do anything with them. I'm trying to keep them as a border plant. Not easy! They were already in the ground as a border when we moved in, and thrive in the heat. Their roots really spread out too, which makes them difficult to remove. Anyway. I did some removal a couple weeks ago, and noticed a lot of earthworms were hiding out in the roots. Anyway, my botany/earth talk for the day. :D

LOL with the snow hole over Dfw airport. Of course.

I had some sleet mix in with the rain earlier with the Temp in the mid 40’s. So technically we could claim another winter event here in DFW

Mornin weather junkies. Light rain and 40 degrees to start the day. Add the breeze in and today will be a little raw and wet. Not bad for a mid winter day.

Very nice aggiecutter. The radar earlier looked great for Texarkana. Enjoy it. Makes me wonder if my parents are getting snow at Caddo Lake.

35 and rain in Hideaway and Tyler. Evidence of sleet on roofs all over. Best winter precip is up along I-30 as expected.

Thankfully we have over 125 plus years of recorded history to look over around here....and by just taking a deep dive into those records you'll see that there is nothing too abnormal about this streak - it has happened before and can obviously happen again. My advice would be to just to enjoy this weather...it's the only weather we've got and there is nothing we (as tiny little humans) can do about it!!!
