Deep South Winter 2021-2022
I didn't see a thread for this so I created one. With the upcoming possible snowstorm, winter is finally ramping up.

Here in South Louisiana I don't believe we will have any wintery weather anytime soon. Maybe Atlanta gets hit a lil lick.

With the upcoming potential pattern (if it comes to fruition) southern LA will have a chance. And this is coming from someone who’s a realist and not really some big optimistic person. I see things for what they are.

So, anybody want to chime in and tell us what to expect in the NW corner of NC. Seems models want to send quite a bit our way.

Depends on the track of the low. Too far west and north and it could just be a rain or ice event for you guys.

Being that it's a long weekend, I'm thinking of taking a little Winter joy ride. Depends on the forecasts the day before.

What are the chances of snow immediately west of Athens in Georgia? The models are still all over the place and I'm not sure I believe the forecasts.

I’d be more worried about ice. Snow will be difficult to predict for you but expect some ice. And a lot of it.

The NAM looks interesting for MS. Snow for the northern 2/3 of the state with a pocket of 5" in east central. Looks mostly cold enough in the southern third but dry slotted.

Cold front is digging south deep into the gulf of Mexico.
Thats usually the sign of a northeaster with snow line quite far south.
Not sure what they are forecasting further up the coast this time.

Last I heard was the low should stay onshore with mainly a rain/sleet/freezing rain mix for the major cities on the coast with snow further inland. I'm kind of interested to see if that cold core ULL will pull any surprises behind the front further south. Models show a steep drop in temps with warm nose eroding as the cold core approaches. Wouldn't be surprised to see some flurries along the gulf coast or just inland somewhere but it looks too dry for much if anything else.

A band of light to moderate snow has been hanging around just east of Jackson, MS for a couple of hours. Ground is white and still coming down at a good clip. Flurries in Hattiesburg.
<edit> Some location around Jackson have reported up to 5 inches. Intellicast radar shows light snow/flurries approaching the coastal counties. GFS has gone bonkers on the last half of this month. 7 inches on the coast next weekend. LOL.

Turns out that band dumped up to 9" in Leesburg, only about 20 miles from Jackson which got only a dusting.

NAM is showing a lot of freezing rain later this week. NWS discussions mention it but temps will probably be a few degrees too warm. Either way, looks miserable...freezing rain or cold rain I will pass on if given the chance.

Re: Deep South Winter 2021-2022
Is anyone discussing the possible winter weather some are forecasting to impact parts of Louisiana and coastal Mississippi this week? I haven't been on this board since last year's hurricane season so I decided to sign in and check to see if anyone was talking about this week's deep south winter weather.

Temps look borderline here in BTR. Not sure what to expect. Probably minimal impacts but hoping to get the day off of school. Not being discussed much in the TX thread.

Re: Deep South Winter 2021-2022
Just to be on the safe side, I guess, LIX has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the area. Not often do you see this this far south, at any rate. Temps look cold, regardless of any precip. Personally I'm hoping for no icing, if there isn't to be any snowfall. We just got a new roof last week, and Ida broke our central air/heat so the thermostat needs to be replaced, as well.

Icicles on the roof this morning. Freezing rain seems like a waste.
