People say there's no correlation to the summer but this is beyond ridiculous and pathetic for Tulsa to be at 74 degrees at 10pm this time of year. I just don't understand anything about this so called winter. All my years living in the Plains I was told oh just wait til February and for the second year in a row it's just a sad embarrassment of February's in the past
Oh and apparently more people keep moving to Texas not sure for what definitely not the cost of living or the weather or the power grid

The Dallas area is actually one of the most expensive places to live in Texas. Much cheaper in Houston and SA. At least this is what I’ve heard. It was like 80°F here today with 20-30mph winds. It honestly didn’t even feel like it was that warm with the winds blowing like that. I’m not gonna complain. And I still say we don’t have a repeat of last summer.

100°F high in Killeen today. /endthread?
We have a cold front tomorrow and then next Monday. I think that could be all she wrote for cool air.

DukeMu I dont think so, ensembles are trending near average to below average through the first 2 weeks of march, might be done with freezes, but likely will see cooler weather coming back and sticking around a while

And that previous record was 90 degrees...set back in 1917!!!!
1900-1920 set several Texas winter high temp records and that was without a "Urban Heat Island". Some that still stand to this day!

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
Might be a bit early and the wrong thread, but whats the correlation for -NAO and hurricane season? Last year, -NAO/Nino combo was terrible for the Texas summer. How will a -NAO/Nina summer affect Texas?

I know that my long-range guy is saying +NAO for summer. Klotzbach is big on +NAO for summer, too. We shall see.

Before last summer many said 2022 couldn't possibly be repeated, it got hotter summer 2023. As long as -PDO and the driving force is warmer NPAC vs traditional cold pdo setup there is always risk.

Yes, it would result in increased trades and increased upwelling of cooler water.

It's so easy for us to overperform with heat. Lots more upper 90s yesterday than predicted. Sucks. 90 again today, ugh.

Earth's atmosphere still feeling the effects from the 2022 Tonga Eruption...
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/377060444_Stratospheric_Temperature_and_Ozone_Impacts_of_the_Hunga_Tonga-Hunga_Ha'apai_Water_Vapor_Injection
Plain Language Summary Stratospheric ozone protects Earth's biosphere from harmful ultraviolet radiation, and along with water vapor, are key components in determining temperature and chemistry of the atmosphere. The January 2022 eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai underwater volcano in the South Pacific injected water vapor into the atmosphere, increasing stratospheric water vapor by 10%. In this study, we use computer simulations of the stratosphere to project how this additional water vapor changed temperature and ozone in the months and years following the eruption. The water vapor cooled the middle stratosphere (roughly 14–25 miles above Earth's surface) and warmed the lower stratosphere (6–14 miles above the surface), with the largest changes of 2–5° Fahrenheit in March–June 2022, several months after the eruption. The additional water vapor modified chemical processes that affect stratospheric ozone, leading to a projected 10%–15% enhancement in the Antarctic ozone hole. This ozone hole enhancement is estimated to have maximized in October 2023, almost 2years after the eruption, due to the slow circulation of stratospheric water vapor from the subtropics to the polar region. These impacts are expected to diminish after 2024 as the excess water vapor is slowly removed from the atmosphere by natural processes.

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
One of the biggest snowstorms in years about to impact the California Sierras later this week. And that's saying something considering the record breaking year last year.
Euro model Kuchera Ratio going to 220 inches of snow over a 4 day period (even 10:1 ratio snow totals of 110 inches) along with 125 mph plus winds at the crest!!!!
