Winter Weather Summary
POSTED: November 13, 2003 7:57 a.m.

Heavy snow in the West and off of the Great Lakes..
Moisture feeding into the Four Corners region, by virtue of the subtropical jetstream, will mean significant snowfall for primarily the northern New Mexico mountains and the mountains of central and southern Colorado. Generally 1-3 inches will fall in northern New Mexico and northeast Arizona with as much as 6 inches over the high peaks. In Colorado, this looks to be a 3-6 inch event over the next 24 hours, with 6-12 inches over the high peaks. Snow will also accumulate at least a couple of inches in the Wasatch, and there can be 1-3 inches as far north as western Wyoming and the Bitterroots. The central Sierra in California can expect a new 1-3 inches as well.
A powerful storm over eastern Canada is producing an unstable, northwesterly flow across the Great Lakes. High winds are a problem in the Great Lakes and the Northeast today with gusts to 50 mph quite common. As for snow amounts, an additional 1-3 inches seems likely in parts of the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan as well as on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Over the next 24 hours, flurries and squalls will leave generally 1-3 inches in northeast Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, New York, southward through the mountains of west-central Pennsylvania and all the way to the high elevations of southwestern Virginia. Where the favored snow set up in northwest Pennsylvania and western New York, there will be higher amounts. Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties in New York will more than likely end up with 6-12 inches.
The Adirondacks and the northern New England mountains are in line for 3-6 inches by tomorrow morning.
