Sorry, like a major snowstorm in Austin, their is always next year.

As I speak , the big front, is sweeping thru Corpus! Dark skies and all of that good stuff.

Good Bye, summer!! Don't comeback till at least April!

(regarding the avatar switch): It was too painful to see Chief Wahoo this morning. I'm licking my wounds. :(

Meanwhile, enjoy the chill down there. It feels great up here ... we're still sitting in the low 50s with some solid breezes from the north and clouds. Love it!!

Oh goodness - record high 85 today. Our temp is reading 86.

I thought it was supposed to go down to the high 30's tonight, but wunderground has the overnight low expected to be 28?

Fall in Texas!

Based on the latest info from SPC, looks like we in central and most of south central Texas are going to luck out and not be in the "moderate risk" area. We've stayed in the cold sector since last night and that'll probably end up saving us from the most severe potential. However, our friends to the east and south will not be so fortunate today. :(

Haven't posted in a while on this thread. I wish I could be as active as the SE Texas folks, but alas, work and family call.

Anyhooo ... in case anyone is interested, the Austin metro area usually averages 10-12 days a summer with temps at 100 or above. Already this year, we have had 14 days at 100 degrees or above, starting from mid-May.

The northern portions of our area are in "severe" drought conditions now while the southern half is in what is called "extreme" drought. And we're 6.72 inches BELOW normal for precipitation at the Camp Mabry site (basically central Austin).

Sure wish some of these MCS would give us a soaking but they seem to be going right and left of Austin! :x

I think it's been 15 days - 13 in June and 2 in May.

Anyway - that storm we had yesterday dumped marble size hail at our house and some rain. Our fences are dinged up, one tree is about 3/4 broken, one car has hail dings on the roof and the outdoor a/c compressor has dinged up fins.

Not as bad as the 2003 hailstorm, but this one wasn't associated with an 8o mph downburst either...

Anyone else get hail?

Oh our puppy wasn't scared - she got out on the patio as it was dying down and was chasing hailstones and eating them before I could bring her back in. She thought they were a gift from the great icemaker in the sky....

Wow, really?! I hadn't heard much about a storm like that. Sounds fierce.

I'm living in SW Austin now and we had a strong little cell on Saturday afternoon that dumped about a half inch of rain on us with some gusty winds and lightning, but nothing of the magnitude you had.

And Shoshana, that's a funny image about the puppy ... I could just see her running around, munching on hailstones!

After yesterday's 100-degree recorded high temperature at Camp Mabry ... Austin now has 20 days at 100 degrees or higher in the last six weeks. Add that to the 10-inch precipitation deficit we have and things are looking more and more like 1980! :(

I have had said several times that this year brings back memories of 1980 all over agian Portastrom. Let's hope the frontal boundry can sag down far enough to give you folks some rain.

It was a good evening for portions of Texas' capital city as we saw showers/thunderstorms pop up and drop some welcomed rainfall. My part of Austin (southwest) saw about .40 inches of rain with heavier amounts toward central portions of the metro area.

Here's hoping we see more of that today! :D

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 -- warmest June on record!

After last week's brief respite from the heat of June ... where we enjoyed some scattered diurnal shower activity ... it appears we are back in the summer oven. Austin has now seen 25 days at or above 100 degrees (using Camp Mabry as the temp site) since early May. Interestingly enough, the ASOS site at the airport has only registered 4 days at or above 100 degrees so far. I'm guessing this is an "urban heat island" issue all the way.

Yup, I've noticed that year round, ABIA is almost always cooler than Mabry. Our temp gauge tends to read about 3 degrees warmer than ABIA year round.

Camp Mabry's ASOS site recorded a high yesterday (7/14/08) of 105 degrees! ABIA recorded a high of 101. We're now at 26 days at or above 100 degrees.

Hope the outflow boundaries from yesterday's convection stir up a little cooling rain for us!

Through July 21st, Austin has now had 32 days at or above 100 degrees at the Camp Mabry recording station and 8 days at or above 100 degrees at the airport.

I hope Dolly provides us with some refreshing showers later this week! :D
