Currently 88 degrees in Orlando, winds gusting into the mid 30s, plenty of fuel being drawn into the incoming squall line. Is going to be nasty when it reaches the Tampa Bay area first.
Winds are pretty linear from the surface on up so I don't see much of a tornado threat, mostly high wind gusts with the squall line itself.

Impressive! This is the pre- frontal squall line off the West Central Florida coast in the GOM. I have been watching that portion of the line the past couple of hours. Also, the first scattered convective cells outside of the pre-frontal squall line are beginning to develop near Starke along the U.S. 301 corridor. I am anticipating more scattered cells to develop just out ahead of the squall line across North and Central Florida later this afternoon with the added heating of the afternoon.

Yes northjaxpro, its an impressive storm system considering its reach and those storms forming ahead of the squall line are forming fast. Thanks for being on top of this one. If I'm wrong, isn't this the first severe weather outbreak of the season?

Well, we have not had a pattern conducive for severe weather potential for the most part this spring due in large part to the -NAO. Cooler and drier continental air has been in place this spring. This is the first severe weather potential state-wide we have had to my recollection on a large scale so far in 2018 JaxGator.

Line is on approach to my area right now. I'm not expecting svr wx here but do anticipate heavy rain. these lines tend to produce severe weather in the form of straight line winds when their forward motion is rapid...something we don't have with this one. On the plus side, a slower forward motion=more heavy rain potential so this is a net benefit

Keep in mind, as NDG has referenced earlier, we will see strong, straight-line winds with these storms. The winds could reach 50-70 mph in gusts potentially in some of the storm cells this afternoon. Hail and isolated tornado reports are still possible later today as well.

better chance for severe will likely reside in CAPE hoggers that pop in front of the main line. the storms that just fired up from eastern citrus county up into marion county are looking interesting... but you need to be sufficiently inland for that to happen. the immediate west coast is typically exempt from such activity.

Radar now shows a new line of storms just out ahead of the main pre-frontal squall line from Lake Butler in Union County, southward to just north of Ocala. This is just what I am watching for because these storms are being fueled by added heating of the day. I am more concerned about these storm cells producing the severe weather later today. They are beginning to rapidly fire -up!

The new squall line has really intensified over the past 30 minutes and expanded. The line extends from extreme western Duval County south-southwest to Leesburg. This is quite concerning to me in terms of these cells producing hail, and strong straight-line winds. Very active afternoon for sure!

Tornado watch extended further down now, but surprised that it does not include the Orlando area.

Yeah, NDG, I agree. I am quite surprised SPC did not include Orlando metro in the Watch area.

The new squall line of storms really looks impressive, especially along and inside the U.S. Highway 301 corridor from Western Jacksonville metro south to near Wildwood. I am anticipating the first severe weather reports from this line this afternoon.

The strong line of storms are now just moving into Duval County proper now. I will be closely monitoring this of course. BTW, had a southerly wind gust outside of the storms here at my home of 38 mph just a few minutes ago.

long lived rotation signature is on approach to southern Pinellas county on a northeastward heading. If it remains intact it looks tornado warning worthy soon.

Yeah psyclone I am not surprised by that being issused. Radar continues to show possible rotation down in that area. Be safe down there!

Heavy rain just started here at my locale as the strong line of storms are descending into the Jax area. Also, strong winds as well.
