Storms went up right over us earlier and then bounced around and pushed back in later.

My son had a soccer game in north Plano at Russell Creek. It was hot, but I started noticing clouds just to the SE building and getting darker. Told another Dad that I had a bad feeling about it because lightning sends everyone off the fields and delays the game. With 6 mins to go in 1st half, lightning horns went off. Never did get to play again. This was around 5:45. So it came from Plano. :D

Not much rain over here but hours of lightning

Saw a report on Facebook of a 68 mph gust in North Plano

More rain now than before from a rain mass seriously lol

I can believe the wind gust. Driving home, we were on the Plano/Allen border and the wind was nuts. Debris streaming from a construction site. It seemed very localized because about 1/4 mile away wasn’t windy at all.

I picked up 1.52 inches yesterday. Didn’t get to see it as I was dropping my son off at school in Fayetteville.

Looks like a nice little cool down for a few days after today. Highs in the lower 90s and lows in the upper 60s.

Nice .45 this morning since we missed the rain the other day.

A couple of notes this morning.

Short term will be decent the next few days near seasonal averages

It will get hotter later in the week to remind us it is still August.

Some large scales changes will occur with a big western trough. While this is not the ideal pattern for cool, this kind of set up can bring rains with SW flow aloft and if the ridge is anchored to the east/northeast of here. If EPAC systems are involved it will rain a lot more.

We are still looking at a potential (modoki) El Nino to form. Expecting a wetter and possibly cooler SON. The next couple of weeks and months focus should be put on the Pacific and its behavior to give clues on what lies ahead. The seasonal transition periods often shows a hand of the cards dealt

Maybe we'll get some relief here in a bit(?). Nice little popups. Severe right around us.

Well, I got lots of thunder and about 30 drops of rain, and a drop in temp. Better than zero I guess.

The ECMWF was right for this week, while the GFS was wrong. Let's hope the ECMWF is right in this case for next week. Because this heat frankly, sucks, and it's a killer to anything living in it without a water break.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
248 PM CDT Tue Aug 21 2018

.SHORT TERM (Tonight through Wednesday Night)...
The heat continues as the upper level ridge remains in place across
the region. WPC continues to maintain the analysis of a stationary
boundary across the region, but really not much difference in the air
masses on either side of the boundary as it continues to decay. A
couple showers have developed across Fort Worth`s CWA north of the
region this afternoon. Additional development may occur further south
into the Austin metro area and points east this afternoon and
evening, but PoPs only top out at 30 percent. Wednesday should be dry
and a degree or two warmer than today. Temperatures and heat indices
will likely warrant the issuance of another SPS.

&&

.LONG TERM (Thursday through Tuesday)...
No major changes to the forecast as the upper ridge remains in place
across Texas through Friday, yielding very hot and dry conditions.
The ridge begins to shift eastward this weekend, which should lower
temperatures by a degree or two, but high temperatures will still be
around the century mark through Monday for most of the region.

Models diverge heading into Tuesday of next week. The ECMWF tries to
develop an upper level disturbance across the Gulf that would bring
cooler temperatures, increased cloud cover and rain chances to the
region
while the GFS doesn`t show this.

I'm so tired of Summer. For some reason this year, it seems longer than any other year.

It does seem like it has lasted FOREVER compared to other years. It really started down here in May.

Down here, we had a week break in early July with rain and cooler temps, got 5 inches at my house. The Hill Country missed out on most of that. Then the heat came back with a vengeance, got oppressively humid, and evaporated all the progress the rain made, like it never happened. Things wilted and turned brown again after a couple weeks or so of 100s.

Then last week, the Hill Country got several inches of rain in multiple spots last week over a multiple day period, but our lakes did not respond at all to it. We got 1.75 inches. Most of the rain in the hills got absorbed because of how hot and dry it's been. I didn't even have ponding in my yard this time, because it soaked in, which was great. I can just see it stressing again after only a week and a half of near or at 100s.

I really hope a weak Nino forms. That would help out all of us.

I hear ya. From living right outside of the hottest location in the US a could of times in July to missing out on most of the rain, to cracked ground and dead crispy grass; I'm more than done with it all. I think we all are in for a great fall and winter.
