WOW! My rain gauge has just over 2" of rain. It came down for about 2 hours, often very heavy, with some thunder and lightning. Seabreeze boundary storms in March? We have not had but 2" of rain total since about Dec 1. This was welcomed rainfall during a very dry period. Unusual weather is becoming the norm in this country.

I was surprised by the thunder, I haven't heard it in what seems like forever. I didn't get any rain but It was nice just to hear thunder again...

Re: Florida Weather
Finally, some much, much needed rain is currently moving through the JAX metro area. I have had less than two inches of rain measured at my location since mid December! Extremely dry in this region. Solid line of thunderstorms moving through, should dump a decent amount of rain. I'll measure when its done.

Re: Florida Weather
Well, I measured just under 1/2 inch of rain in the line of thundershowers which moved through the past hour and a half ago. It is a start I guess. We need every bit of it. Hopefully, we will have another round of rain and thundershowers tomorrow as that ever slow moving front to our west and northwest finally approaches our area.

Re: Florida Weather
SPC has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the northeast portion of the peninsula which includes the Jax metro area until 7:00 p.m.
Radar currently shows an impressive line of storms across the Suwanee River basin area moving east. NWS just issued a severe thunderstorm warning just issued for Columbia county (Lake City)area at this time. Thunderstorms should reach the Jax metro area by 2 p.m.

There has not been too much of any severe weather reports so far today, except for some hail reports in and around the Lake City and Live Oak areas from thunderstorms that occured earlier today. There are currently strong thunderstorms just north of my area in Nassau county extending west to Baker and Columbia county. NWS Jax just issued a significant weather alert for strong winds and possible hail for these storms as they move eastward.
Another line of storms are forming extending southwest to northeast from Apalachee Bay to east of Lake City. This will likely reach my area within the next couple of hours. Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for a few more hours for my region.

It potentially could be a rather active day across the western panhandle and eventually the northern peninsula. A rather potent MCV just offshore Pensacola is moving east at a pretty good clip and is helping to energize the atmosphere. So far, very heavy thunderstorms have already occured earlier this morning across the western panhandle. I suspect with abundant surface heating, combined with the potent upper level energy provided by the MCV, severe thunderstorms are a significant probabilty to occur across North Florida later today.

Just checked and just over 1 inch of rain has occured at my location as heavy thunderstorms moved through. Much needed rain indeed!!! Got to get as much as possible because a hot, dry period of weather is coming beginning tomorrow. This current line of storms extends from Jax southwest through Gainesville into Levy county.
We will have another round of rain and storms move into the area late this afternoon into the early evening. The upper level shortwave axis which is currently just to our west will pivot across the North Florida peninsula through tonight.
No severe weather reports so far today, but there is still a chance of seeing possible strong to severe thunderstorms across the area into tonight as the shortwave axis moves through.

Very summer-like weather right now:
Annoyingly hot and humid with thunderstorms building and moving to the east.
