Well the Canadian has a retrograding ridge in it's 0z run. The GFS does something similar about a week from now and then digs a trough down the plains. Might definitely be wrong, but it's better than showing ridging the whole run!

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
221 AM CDT Wed Jul 18 2018

.SHORT TERM (Today through Thursday)...
Hot and dry conditions continue through the short term. High
temperatures today and Thursday near or a degree warmer than
yesterday. This will put Llano and Burnet counties into Heat Advisory
criteria (air temp => 103). Llano hit 106 yesterday and Burnet 102.
A few isolated spots in Llano county are forecast to reach 105-106
degrees today, which would technically reach Excessive Heat Warning
criteria (air temp => 105), however don`t think it will be widespread
enough to warrant warning. A Heat Advisory will be issued for this
afternoon and early evening for Llano and Burnet counties, which will
also fit well with offices to the north. It appears the Saharan Dust
peaked over the region Monday and Tuesday. So not quite as hazy
today and tomorrow compared to early this week.

&&

.LONG TERM (Thursday Night through Tuesday)...
A 595-598 decameter 500mb ridge is still forecast to expand through
New Mexico and into West and West Central Texas Friday through the
weekend. With South Central under the influence of the southern
periphery of the ridge and increasing thickness values, high
temperatures will warm further, likely peaking Sunday and Monday.
Highs will range from 100-102 degrees across the Hill Country,
101-105 degrees along and east the I-35 corridor and 104-108 along
the Rio Grande. Just based on air temperature alone Heat Advisories
will likely be needed over a good portion of the region. Can`t rule
out some spots near Excessive Heat Warning Criteria, especially
Sunday and Monday.

Confidence in the forecast decreases day 7-8 (late Tuesday and
Wednesday). The GFS backs the center of the ridge off further to the
west than the ECMWF, and shows a potential for rain chances during
this time in the northerly flow.
The ECMWF maintains ridging over the
area and hot and dry conditions.

104F yesterday at DFW. 105+ probably today and near 110 the next few.

Long range guidance do show retrogression of the Sonoran High thus inducing some NW flow with slightly "cooler" air mass.

A Heat Advisory is in effect along and west of the I-35 corridor today where temperatures will climb into the 103-105 degree range. An Excessive heat Watch is in effect Thursday and Friday when it will be even warmer with high temperatures in the 105-110 degree range. Take precautions to protect yourself and others from heat-related illness.

Got to get through this weekend first and things should get a little better next week but it doesn't take hardly any rain to reach "normal" levels in late July and August.

I have noticed the Texas Sages are blooming like crazy at work and on my way home to work. Bushes have gotten flush with purple flowers over the past couple of days.

I know the Texas Sages were blooming right before the July 4th rainy period started. Now they are blooming exactly two weeks after the 4th. Could be a result of the rains two weeks ago, or a foreshadowing of rains to come(??). Anyway. Pretty cool.

A short fuse Heat Advisory may be coming shortly as IAH currently has a heat Index of 107F. Heat Advisories seem likely for Saturday through Monday as Heat Indices are expected to reach the 110F to 112F Range. Be careful out there and stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the A/C if possible.

I continue to see changes brewing next week as the Upper Heat Ridge is nudged WNW as a trough deepens over the Eastern half of the United States. Rain chances look to increase East to West beginning Tuesday as a weakness between the retreating Ridge over Texas shifts to the Great Basin and the strong Bermuda Ridge remains anchored off the East Coast.

Looking at the latest forecasts for the next several surges of Saharan Dust, the mid level flow appears to keep the bulk of the dust tracking West into Mexico into the weekend and next week.

A weatherstation not far from my office is reporting 113 (The Colony). Walking from my car to my desk after lunch, it was like someone was blowing a hair dryer in my face. A frozen pox upon your house.

105 at DFW this hour. Excessive heat warning in effect for most of FW CWA, believe first since 2011.
