Ah, a nice spring weekend is in store for Texas. Time to hit the bike for a couple of long rides. I think that if we can make it through the next week, then we will have made it past the coldest part of the winter. By the time the cold air re-loads in western Canada it will be late February or early March - too late for any frozen precip at least as far south as Houston.

Watch the March 5-10 time frame for a potential heavy rain maker across much of Texas. Long range models have been in pretty good agreement showing this the past few days.

We had a 42f low this am, but the basics are Spring has Sprung in SE TX too. Looking forward to my trip to the National Tropical Weather Conference at the Hilton on South Padre April 13-16. Please keep the weather perfect for that! LOL!!

Winter is definitely over across SE TX. A few more lows in the 40s should be about it. No more freezes (only had 2 light ones) and certainly no freezing/frozen precip. Bluebonnets are starting to bloom along the bike trail and my azaleas are already blooming. All the signs are there - spring has sprung. The warmth of summer isn't too far away now!.

That's good. The actual weather is usually 180 degrees off of their forecast.

I'm hoping for a cool, wet spring. Not the amount of rain last year all at once, that was too much and too much severe weather associated. But a more persistent rainy forecast.

The last week of January and the first two+ weeks of February I was absolutely miserable with allergies. Have had them my entire life and tried almost every form of pill and inhalers available, with only temporary relief. Hating needles I decided to bite the bullet and start getting shots in my rear end starting in 2008. Cortisone steroid shots that last for about a year. The first few years it worked like magic. Hardly one allergy attack each winter/spring. The last couple years the positive effects tended to wane. With that, compounded with having to pay the majority of the cost thanks to "new" insurance, I decided to purchase a bottle of OTC Zyrtec and a box of CVS cold and sinus. About 10 days have passed and I must say, so far, these have worked wonders. The Zyrtec is once a day and the CVS brand I took early on but haven't needed lately. I hope and pray this continues on into the spring season.

When it gets bad for me, I'll use Costco brand Zyrtec, Singulair, Sudafed, and will do sinus flushes. Even then it isn't enough. Grass and ragweed are the worst for me.

Hi guys... welcome to the spring thread.

The GFS is very consistent with that big rain event in the March 9-11 timeframe considering how far out it is...

I'm liking what I'm seeing in the second week of March. Widespread temps in the 80s (and 90s) across Texas for the weekend when we switch back to Daylight Savings Time. I should be able to get some evening rides in after work. I'm not seeing a lot or rain, though. It's looking like March will be warmer and drier than normal.

Your allergies sound like mine. Of course this year they had to morph into a sinus infection. Now that I am over that all I do is drain, drain, drain. Guess I'll try the zyrtec otc since others haven't worked. :double:
I am not liking the drier and warmer than normal we are having. If it lasts long enough it will do another 2011 where dry and hot begets dry and hot and then along comes drought which begets drought. UGH!! :x :x
