30F will be the official low at CVG, tying the record low for the day. In my backyard (near CVG) it was 35, though the accuracy of the thermometer is questionable.

If you follow the rule "don't put plants out until Mothers Day" then no problems. :)

Looking back, the last few Mays started out cool(ish) and the summers followed.

May '12 started out nasty and the summer followed.

Hoping for the trend to continue which would mean another cool(ish) summer.

June 10th and I haven't put the AC unit in the window yet. Lows the last couple of nights have been at or below 60, so I've been able to cool the house off enough to get through the day.

That won't be true the next few nights though with lows forecast for around 70. A/C may have to go in tomorrow.

We have not hit 90 degrees officially yet. In 2014, '15 and '16, we had already hit that mark (in '16, it was the 10th). In '13, we hit it on the 11th, but the forecast is calling for 88 tomorrow, so it could be a hit or a miss.

I can't find out when the latest first 90 is though without emailing the WFO and I'm sure they have more important things to do.

Low humidity and temps around 80 for highs and around 50-55 for lows the last few days. I could take this all Summer, but alas, the upper 80s and Muggies are back in the forecast.

Yea, it's been gorgeous for the last few days. We went on a long bike ride Sunday, fall like weather.

I see something unusual about the period of July 3, 4 and 5 each of the last 4 years. All are below normal in temperatures. This is the second year we had a multi-inch rainfall. No where near as bad as last5 year though with roads washed out, etc. In 2014, we were as much as 10 degrees below normal during this three day period when we had night time lows of 61, 58 and 57 for those three days respectively.

Dang, what happened in '04 to spark so many low temperature records so close together? Seems like I should remember, but I don't.

Yea, I noticed that as well when trying to figure out if early cool temps effected hurricane season. 2004 has some crazy nice weather in August.

.SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Friday night)
Issued at 315 PM CDT Wed Aug 30 2017

Flash Flood Watch issued for most of West KY Thursday night
through Friday. Remnants of Harvey will approach Thursday
afternoon, tracking across west TN Thursday night, heading
northeast and reaching east central Kentucky by Friday evening.
We will see an uptick in rains Thursday afternoon across our
southern most counties in west KY, SEMO/bootheel, with a solid
area of heavy rain lifting northeast across west Kentucky Thursday
night. The extra tropical transitional nature of this system, with
some slight deepening forecast given the isallorbaric pressure
tendencies means we will likely see gusty winds as well,
especially across west Kentucky. We may eventually need a Wind
Advisory. The next shift can make a call on this. Widespread
amounts in excess of 4 inches across the Watch area appears
likely. As you head toward the TN border, including areas from
Murray to Hopkinsville, amounts of 6 inches or more are likely.
The extremes on either end seem to range from 4-5" on the low end,
to 8-10" on the high end toward the KY/TN line. The focus will be
Thursday night into early Friday morning. Meanwhile, a very sharp
cut off, gradient, will exist from near the Ohio River north and
west into southern Illinois and southeast Missouri with amounts
quickly tapering down to less than 1". Any shift in the low track
will have a significant impact on amounts. However, confidence is
decent in the latest forecast track given model stabilization.

So far, so good. A little over an inch with maybe another inch or two possible. Steady, but moderate, no heavy downpours. Ground is so dry, it should be able to soak that up like a sponge without major runoff. Plants and trees really needed this as they were beginning to show stress from the dry.

Mild winds in the 20-30 range, no major damaging gusts.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Paducah KY
251 PM CDT Sat Sep 9 2017

Now for the Irma portion of the forecast. The remnants of Irma
will steadily approach our region through 12Z Tuesday when its
center will be somewhere near western Tennessee or perhaps just
south into northern Mississippi or Alabama. The surface ridge will
slowly be forced to the north of the area as the pressure gradient
tightens over our region.

Northeast winds are likely to become gusty with mixing Monday
afternoon with some gusts near 20kts possible. The sustained winds
will set in across the entire region Monday evening and increase
overnight into Tuesday. Sustained winds 10 to 20 mph are expected
with gusts 20 to 30 mph. The strongest winds should be across
west Kentucky.

As for precipitation, much of the 12Z guidance is speeding up the
arrival of showers associated with Irma. Some models bring rains
into west Kentucky before 00Z Tuesday, but it will more likely
begin to spread northwest across the region Monday evening, with
most locations seeing rainfall by 12Z Tuesday. There should not be
any thunder associated with this event, but the tropical rains
will pile up quickly. Ft Campbell could see an inch or more by 12Z
Tuesday. The heaviest and most widespread rains may be associated
with this initial band Monday night, so the QPF for this cycle
may be conservative.

11AM temp, 61 degrees? :cold: :froze:

Normals for now are in the low 80s and that's in the forecast for the weekend.

Dang sure hope this don't happen in January.

After the 'coolest start of September on record', I'm not liking the forecast of upper 80s for a week (or more).
