Re: Texas Summer 2017
More big weather out in the Texas Panhandle. Wind damage at the Dalhart Airport, a tornado just NE of Amarillo, and I-40 shut down due to flooding.
@TxDOTAmarillo -- Westbound I-40 and Bell in Amarillo is open; eastbound still has a foot of water over the road. #TurnAroundDontDrown #phwx
@TxDOTAmarillo -- 8 inches of water across I-40 from Vega to Wildorado. Eastbound traffic at standstill; Rain has stopped, but will take time to drain.

Yeah I just saw that. GFS has the same system heading into the Carolinas while the Euro has a high over that area sending it west towards the Gulf.

Sheets of rain out at the airport, I'd be surprised if it doesn't pick up at least 1-2"

Re: Texas Summer 2017
Got hammered on the way to the train this morning. Major model bust on this as the HRRR and 00z 3K NAM had the southern end of the storms dying off well before entering DFW. IIRC, FWD had a 20% chance of rain when they issued a graphic yesterday evening. Nice surprise.
Also, Texas might break that hurricane drought during the next two weeks.

Winter time post are almost exclusively focused on the DFW area.

0.62" at the airport, the heaviest actually fell just east of the airport but this is all bonus now considering.
The Euro run intrigues me mildly about an Atlantic system. Still long range and the storm is long ways away.

Re: Texas Summer 2017
Picked up another 2.25" out of last nights storms. That makes a little over 3.25" total for the weekend. Unfortunately, it appears the heat and humidity returns this week.

Nearly 5 inches in the gauge here for the past few days including this mornings half inch. Major cracks of thunder this morning, was just praying for the livestock every time I saw the flash and heard the bang instantly but think all is good!

Ntxw wrote:DFW airport is at 15.15" for the summer since June 1st. This is easily the wettest summer since 2007. Which is number 2 wettest at 16.99 trailing 2004 at 18.89" for JJA. To beat 2004 we would need 3.75" inches of rain the next 2 weeks.
I need to amend this post. 2007 is 5th wettest. 2004 is still wettest, currently DFW is at 7th wettest per NWS FW graphic
With this morning's rain DFW needs about and inch and a quarter to make top 5. Certainly doable with some luck. If you were going to tell me we would see one of our wettesr summers in May, I would not have believed.
Austin is still left out mostly, hoping for a very wet fall down there

It is remarkable how much of a difference there has been this summer in the weather in just a 200-mile swath. I'm glad that you all in North Texas are enjoying such a wet (and not so hot) summer. As you know, Austin and San Antonio are in drought with conditions worsening. And there is no positive sign on the horizon in the next 10 days, so it's just going to get worse down here. But wow ... such a difference in just a few hours drive.

It sure is sad, but true Porta. Unfortunately there is no end in sight either...unless that potential tropical system heads here. The early top analog for it is Allen from 1980.

Yeah, that was a nice bonus event last night with over 1/2" at the airport. The models seem to be in uncharted territory this August.

Actually, less than that. As of the end of last week, Texarkana was 8+ inches above normal for rainfall for the year. Shreveport, which is about 60 miles south of Texarkana as the crow flies, was 6+ inches below normal for the year. The demarcation line exits along the I-20 corridor.

Missed all the rain this morning, got kinda sick last night so I slept, didn't even know it rained until I saw that there had been an areal flood advisory on my phone.

Yeah, like Porta alluded to, how can there be that much disconnect in the weather pattern in only a few hour drive or so swath??? You would think we would get some outflow boundaries down this way, with each passing day from such robust convection up that way eating away at this God-forsaken ridge! Has to go somewhere(?). EWX doesn't even seem phased by it. I don't get it. It seems like it goes against the laws of physics.
I'm just in awe at the reports coming out of the Dallas area on the rain and flooding, while we can't buy a drop of rain a mere 200 miles away from the DFW area.

How is our weather looking for Monday the 21st for the eclipse, for cloud cover? I know there is an eclipse thread but it seems to be more focused on the areas that will experience totality.
