I don't know how accurate the Euro weeklies are, but I do know that as of this morning (7/18) both the GFS and Euro operational runs are showing no rain for Austin and triple digit high temps for much of the rest of July. Here's hoping those weeklies come through.

The Euro Weeklies have been pretty accurate lately. In fact, it's been calling for a wet August for several runs now. That helps to increase my forecast confidence and hope of it verifying!

At least for DFW, it basically only takes one random storm to get above normal rainfall in August! I hate August the most

I've have finally accepted the fact that the average number of 100 degree days has increased and will continue to increase in the years and decades ahead. I knew it was but just didn't want to accept It. I'm half way to emotional stability now lol. It will also become very rare indeed to have a summer with 7 or less triple digit days let alone none at all.

Okay I'm knocking out for a few weeks. Let's hope we continue to see some hope for August.

I'm wondering if the average number of 100 degree days has a lot to do with what part of the state you're in. Aside from the humidity and the temps the last couple of weeks, this summer up here along the river hasn't been that horrible. So far we have only had 3 days that have reached 100. One of those days 101. This week looks to reach 100 but after that, the forecast is showing upper 90s.

FWD going a bunch of 98-99 for DFW throughout this upcoming stretch... no 100's

But 98 or 100's, it's entirely too hot... and nothing below 80 at night...

It's nothing unusual and not even an impressive true heat wave..but because of the rain chances in June and early July spoiled so this stretch is annoying. Plus when you've had warm winters, I think my tolerance for it dwindles.

18z GFS bringing rain back to Texas.

Kind of unrelated to this thread, but the Euro Weeklies keep pressure above normal across the MDR all the way into September.

Yeah, saw on the news today this is the warmest year on record in DFW so far, no surprise and thanks to the non-winter and warm spring... not even because of summer :x

The heat has actually been worse north of the state... heat indexes in KS/MO today were worse than Dallas.

This is definitely not a heat wave by Texas standards. That would be temps 105+ for a week or two.

Only one 100 day at DFW so far this year... but still warmest on record. Nighttime lows are almost always above normal. It takes a decent cool front to get them to normal levels for a day or two.

:uarrow: Typical summer weather in Texas for sure. Can you imagine this thread in the summer of 1980? :D

Yes, 2011 had 70 days of 100 plus in Dallas versus 69 in 1980.

But don't forget these gems about 1980 (based on a quick Google search and a story by KXAS' reporter Frank Heinz):

- the summer of 1980 broke or tied 29 daily records at DFW
- it hit 113 degrees in Dallas/Fort Worth on June 26 and June 27 that year
- Sweltering highs were also recorded in Weatherford (119), Wichita Falls (117), Vernon (116), and Bowie, Bridgeport, Henrietta, and Lake Kemp (all at 115)
- it got above 105 degrees at DFW on 28 days that summer
- the average daily high temp at DFW in the summer of 1980 was 102.4 degrees
- Hurricane Allen in August and Tropical Storm Danielle in September helped take the bite out of the heat wave

That was my first summer in the Lone Star State and I thought my late father had moved our family to the surface of the sun.

I don't care for summer heat at all - loathe it, in fact - but anything less than 1980 (and 2011) is pure gravy.

And when we get to to August on the calendar, the next month is September!
