Driving in Austin this evening around 7pm on 183 going north between Mopac and Anderson Mill, we hit a heavy rainstorm with hail mixed in. You could see wet streets ahead of us in distance and cars slowing down.

Couldn't see the hail, but it sounded like pieces of shrapnel or glass hitting the windows. Cars were driving with hazards on, stopping on side of road.

I debated whether or not to stop, but decided to keep going in middle lane, putting my hazards on for a bit. Hit lots of standing water on highway. I'm assuming hail was around pea or marbles, but not sure. Had no way to take cover, but didn't last long. Sun came out, and my six year old daughter saw a rainbow. :)

We weren't under a watch or warning, but still a little woken up by it. Got over an eighth of an inch, putting between a half and 3/4 inch since yesterday.

Another very wet Euro run for DFW with 8" in the metroplex. The Euro EPS continues to trend wetter and the Euro OP/EPS combo did well in sniffing out the wet end to February. The GEFS has also been consistent with a very wet signal.

Wet weather this time of year is often accompanied by severe weather. Mean western troughing in the medium range is certainly a good look for both.

It looks like system ~7 days from now is one to watch for a flooding event. We may have a good tropical connection to the Pacific. Training may come into play with shields of rain coming out of MX
