I'm hoping for some relief next week. That relief we had in early July seems like a memory now.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
305 PM CDT Thu Jul 19 2018

.SHORT TERM (Tonight through Friday Night)...
There are no significant changes in the weather pattern through this
period. High pressure will keep the weather dry and hot. Temperatures
will continue to be well above normal with highs across the CWA
100-106. The Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory will expire for
today early this evening. We have extended the Excessive Heat Warning
for tomorrow to include Williamson and Travis Counties where highs
will reach 105 across a large portion of the counties. We have issued
a Heat Advisory to the south and southwest or the warning to include
San Antonio. Highs across this area will reach 103. Outside of this
area it will still be hot and people should take action to stay cool
and hydrated even if there isn`t a warning or advisory in their area.

&&

.LONG TERM (Saturday through Thursday)...
Hot and dry will continue into the long term. We expect temperatures
to rise another couple of degrees through the weekend. The peak of
this heat wave is looking like it will be Sunday or Monday. At this
time we will issue warnings and advisories one day at time as the
warning area will likely change day to day. However, temperatures
will be above normal with some possible record highs. Models are
starting to show some chance for rain toward the middle of next week
with a frontal boundary moving through North Texas.
Still not in good
agreement and we have some slight chance POPs.

DFW hit 108, broke record high from 1925 :double:

Records could be tied or broken all the way through the weekend. Also the excessive heat warning has been extended through Sunday

Literally anything is better than this

This heat is long overdue. More like the summers of old.

Hottest in state I've seen so far is 112 in Vernon, 111 at the Falls

Yup. It was like this for weeks back in the infamous summer of 1980. At Wichita Falls that year, it hit 117 degrees once, 116 degrees once, 114 degrees three times, and 113 degrees twice. The Falls went above 110 degrees for 10 consecutive days.

At DFW that summer, it hit 113 twice. All told, there were 69 days over 100, 42 days in a row over 100 (all 31 days in July), and worst of all, 28 days over 105 degrees.

That was the gold standard until 2011, which set the record for most days over 100 degrees (at DFW) with 71. But I think it only hit 110 degrees once that year, so for me, I’ll always remember 1980 as being the worst summer ever.

It was really hot in Colorado Springs today. It hit 91 with about 25% humidity. I don’t know how people live in this heat.

We get back to reality tomorrow driving back to Rockwall thru Amarillo and all the towns on 287.

FWD earlier mentioned all time highs in the AFD :double: 113 at DFW

In fact, even some of the blended short-range guidance
advertises widespread 110-112 degree heat! I`m not ready to go
all out on the these extremely hot conditions, but if the
southwesterly flow is a bit stronger than forecast, it may be
possible and all-time record high temperatures at D/FW and Waco
will be within striking distance.

I feel really bad for you guys in Texas. 105+ degrees is just down right miserable! Our humidity makes it feel like it’s in the 100s all the time, but you guys are basically in an oven.

This is all wxman’s doing. Surely, even he doesn’t enjoy this!! You guys owe him a very, very cold winter! Payback is a *****! :ggreen:

Temps here in southeast Texas haven’t really been that terrible. Dew points have been in the upper 60’s during the afternoon so that’s not completely horrible. Dew points could be much higher. Temps have been in the 96-98 range with feels like temps around 103-105. I mean yeah that’s hot, but nothing out of the ordinary really for this time of year. What I’m confused about is the CPC’s 6-10 and 8-14 day precipitation forecasts. It shows above normal rains for Texas, but when I look at the op run of the GFS through 384 hours there’s hardly anything to be found in regards to rain.

Given the decent performance by the ECMWF and it's ensembles, I would not discount at all 110+ tomorrow and Saturday. That 113 is within striking distance. The latest Euro is calling for it to be touched or fall. This is dangerous heat even by our standards. Luckily no power grid issues or it would be a problem as ERCOT has been on it. Someone may hit 115 or close.

Those electric bills will be high.

What many people don't realize, is the actual temperature is taken in the shade. In the Sun and concrete, temps can read 130+. At those temperatures you're basically cooking an egg slowly.

I have an infrared thermometer. I measured the sidewalk out in my front yard. It read 140 degrees. The dashboard of my car read 165 degrees (with windshield shades up and car windows open about 3 inches).

The worst thing about 110 is that we will be doing good to get below 90 overnight. Walking out to work at 7:00 am and having 90+ slap me in the face is my idea of hell.

This was my forecast thing morning.

110 at DALLAS today! I forecasted 109F which was the highest anyone had! Given how model data (globals) have busted by a few degrees this week & how HIRES NAM has 115s this weekend , here is my forecast. :uarrow: :uarrow: :uarrow:

110F FRI. 111 SAT
