Notice some snow flurries getting breakfast in Addison this morning.

What a surprise in SE Texas! I have a feeling we'll be seeing more surprises this winter.

From Jeff Lindner:

Tail end of upper level trough appears to have just enough mid level moisture to work with to produce isolated sleet and snow showers this morning. While radar is showing a fairly widespread area of returns, much of this is not reaching the ground due to a very dry sub cloud layer air mass. However there have been several reports of very light sleet and snow pellets from NW Harris County westward to I-35 where some of the stronger radar returns are currently found. Additionally, temperatures are in the mid 30’s to lower 40’s over much of the region which is resulting in anything that reaches the ground melting on contact and there is no threat for any ice on any bridges or overpasses.

Main lift should progress through the area by noon with light precipitation ending.

Freezing warning is in effect for nearly the entire area for tonight except for the immediate coastal locations. Skies will slowly clear late this afternoon and with a very cold air mass in place sub-freezing temperatures are expected over a large part of the area. Lows will range from 27-30 north of HWY 105 to 29-32 north of a line from Bay City to Angleton to Pasadena to Winnie and then above 32 south of that line.

Another freeze is possible for much of the area again on Thursday morning before a warming trend.

Latest trends continue to suggest a fairly warm and stormy Thanksgiving week.

Earliest trace of snow reported in November is 11/23/1979 at IAH followed by 11/28/1976. Watching the weather observer at IAH closely to see if they report -sn today as the precipitation is too light for the automated sensor to record.

As we suffer from wind chills in the teens and 20s over in Angel Fire, NM it dropped down to -27 last night. They were reporting snow falling at the same time as that temperature.

I haven't seen any snow here yet. There have been reports of graupel. But mostly it's been too dry at the surface to support the moist column. It's subliming, probably keeping temps on the more chilly side with the evaporative cooling.

Looks like Sam Rayburn Lake is getting some decent snow right now per the radar, not many people there this time of year to verify it though.

Got a pretty good sleet shower just before 8am in Edinburg. Very rare to see any kind of frozen precip down here much less mid Nov! :double:

It looks like the HRRR was right last night when it showed convective snow showers in the area.

I bet this is how South Texas has felt the decades prior when we received most of the snow. I guess it’s our turn to wait

Of course our snow climo is way better than theirs
