This event just produced what appears to be the first powerful tornado of the year in Alabama. Large PDS with debris lofted up to 15,000 feet on the north side of Birmingham, particularly near the Fultondale area. Probably about a mile wide at peak. Reminds me of Nashville last year...

Adding on to this - preliminary damage reports from twitter are coming in. All seem to support a significant tornado around the EF2-EF3 range.

1 confirmed fatality from the Fultondale storm, a 14 year old boy, making it the first deadly tornado of the year. Devastating

Looks like he ran straight into a cable that was hanging across the road. Lucky he wasn't going faster.

Likely slower to very heavy rain.

A violent storm blew through OKC in April 2017, a car was flipped upside down by falling powerlines on I-40 just east of the I-44 Junction. (Proven by SkyNews9 on News 9)

The Fultondale tornado has been given a preliminary rating of high-end EF2 with 135 mph. I won't be surprised if they end up bumping that up to 140/EF3.

EDIT: This link has it as an EF3 now. Either way a terrible situation for those involved.
