I am really not surprised about this. The pattern in my area has become significantly more active within the past week. I have received more rain in the past week than I did for the entire month of March. To me, that says the pattern has changed. Now we just need to hope that severe weather does not become a problem for the remainder of the month and May. It is not unusual for this to happen though.

Also, I am not surprised about all the cool weather lately. I said back in February to watch out for late-season cool weather. While the old saying "thunder in February, frost in April" is not always accurate, it sure seems to be right most of the time. The crazy thing is that not only did I have thunder in February this year, I even had thundersleet/snow. It's been quite an eventful year so far I will admit!

I'm not buying any significant outbreak for the southern plains the coming days. April so far has been lackluster for us (it's the peak month for N Texas). The bigger news is the cool weather and a slight freeze outside urban areas (this blocking episode may tone down early May's severe weather odds for our region as well). We are now deeply entrenched in the -PDO so no more of the record rainfalls of the past 5-6 years. Dry will tend to beat out wet.

We've already had a cool week leading up to another cool week, need a lot of heat going to kick up an outbreak.

We just dipped to 39 degrees here at 11:30 p.m. at the North Texas Regional Airport on the west side of Denison.

Our low was 39 degrees on Sunday, April 18.

Our low was 39 degrees on Monday, April 19.

Our low was 39 degrees on Tuesday, April 20.

And our overnight low on Wednesday, April 21 will be in the lower 30s.

In mid April. Four days in a row in the 30s. And maybe a freeze.

Wowza.

:cold: :froze:

It’s 32 degrees at North Texas Regional Airport. February was crazy, but this is equally crazy.

An official freeze in Denison and Sherman on April 21, 2021. Wow.

I've heard that parts of Kentucky was over-performing for snow . . .

In December 2020, I had a surprise snowstorm, forecasters said there was going to be no snow, but I've got 1.5 inches that day . . .

You sound like Wxman except replace cold with snow. Actually Wxman would probably ban temps below 70 if he could.

DFW airport hit a record low of 37F this morning beating out 39F back in 1918. We've had several record lows in 2021, more accustomed to record highs the past decade.

A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 37 WAS SET AT DALLAS FORT WORTH
