The end of the FWD discussion

Plenty of uncertainty as one would expect being we`re talking a
week out, so just be sure to get out and enjoy the dry weather and
low humidity this weekend into Monday. The weather goes downhill
later in the week with cool and damp weather the latter half of
the week with lows mostly in the 40s and highs only warming into
the 50s, to maybe lower 60s across Central Texas.

Power lines are down on the west side of UNT. North Texas Blvd is closed by the city of Denton. Wicked winds for sure.

My weather station says 32 mph peak gust. That is very hard to get here in suburbia with close housing.

Peaked at 61 mph gusts here with 39 mph sustained nearly the whole day. Pretty much a tropical storm without the rain lol.

I was one of them. Probably had gusts near 50 mph this afternoon.

The squall line yesterday morning was even worse. I estimated gusts near 60-70 mph when that blew through here. It was wild.

The wind has been kicking! Nearby airport has reported gust in the high 50s. Halloween looks toasty but then a wet chilly week ahead.

Gust of 53 mph measured at Longview. Power flickered a few times at work today.

I knew it was windy when my home weather station basically surrounded by a forest measured a gust of 28 mph, lol.

Man what happened with the GFS? Run after run showing cold and snow to not even dropping below the mid 40s for Oklahoma.

EDIT: Never mind, I jumped the gun I guess. Image

The 18z gfs is interesting to me. In addition to the cold shots that still show up in the mid range, there’s quite a warmup toward the end in advance of the system dropping south at the end of the run. Obviously I wouldn’t take the depiction literally, but the temperature fluctuations and frequency of storm systems through the period make me think this will be one of those years where late season severe weather threats would continue into December.

If the southeast ridge sticks around (which is typical for La Nina) than I do expect severe weather outbreaks for the western Gulf states when the PNA goes negative and you get a trough approaching from the west.

Upper 30s to low 40s around East Texas this morning. Coldest morning of the season so far. Nice dry weekend. Cold and wet mid week. Temps likely stay above freezing but will watch upper levels for chance of sleet. Best chance for snow will be west of DFW in the higher terrain of western N TX.
