A nice drenching in store for drought stricken Southwest

That's a very healthy looking system off the coast right now.

Hopefully it'll put a dent in the drought and the fire danger.

We Are Indeed Expecting

a decent rainfall from this system. But the problem is that we are so far behind the power curve that this will have virtually no effect upon the drought conditions or fire danger. The ground is so dry that any rain will either soak in and not run off or if the ground is hard, we'll have rapid runoff with non soaking in to add moisture to the trees and plants. Here at the house, the accumulated precipitation deficit now exceeds a full 1.5 year's worth of rainfall. We expect 0.5-1.0 inch from this system down here with 2-3 inches in orographically favored areas-a good event to be sure but way short of what's needed.

Whew, that's a lot of catching up to do. Good luck!
