OMG!!! WREL Model Maps are Back?!?!?

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Fri Jan 17, 2003 7:59 pm

Hi everybody and Happy New Year,

The ever popular WREL hurricane model map is back. I've had some requests to track winter storms and thought next week's event seems like a worthy beta test.

Here's the deal:

1. This is nowhere near as complete as when we do TCs. Because this storm is + D3, I am somewhat limited as to tracking options. This software is written for TCs not winter events so you'll see coastal cities and all our other usual hurricane stuff on the page. Sorry, no valid RECCO for winter storms

2. Right now only the AVN (GFS) and EC are tracking. If this works, I can add others on Monday (inside 72 hrs).

3. The model run times are NOT correct. If this works I'll try and get dates on the map. But, it's free so waddayawant

4. Everything is a straight line...that is not the way storms actually move.

5. Graphics are not very good b/c this is setup for tropical tracking. Again, if this has any value, I'll try making a landlubbers color scheme.

6. I do TC models 4X/day. That won't happen with these storms as there isn't enough data ingested. In fact I am going ******* camping on Saturday w/Scouts so no update until Sunday.

7. Comments/suggestions welcome

8. If weenies start dumping on the map or it's accuracy, it's toast.
I'm a hurricane lover, not a winter storm wishcaster :P

That said... here ya go at the same 'ol address:
