Another wildfire popped up in northern Duval County near the Nassau/Duval border. This is at least the third wildfire in the last couple weeks throughout NWS Jax's area of responsibility; the first two were in Columbia County and Ware County, Georgia.

I am native. I rarely go to the beach anymore. Once a year as required. :). I went Wednesday afternoon to Fort Myers Beach. It wasn’t crowded. The breeze was great. The water was warm. The pelicans were fishing within 20 feet of people. It was lovely. It was a good reminder of why I am still here. LEE County resident since forever.

Not so fast on rainy season, it seems? Memorial Day weekend is almost always much, much rainier around here.

We are looking at pretty much near-zero rain all the way through the middle of next week. What happened?

Florida gets plenty of hot weather but not much in the way of hot/dry weather. If it happens May is the most likely time of year. I'm enjoying it. it is nice to not need to worry about big storms firing up. Many areas expecting near 100 degree highs also have lows in the upper 60's to near 70, implying modest dewpoints. with strong high pressure overhead, lower dewpoints really mix down during the day...it is amazing how comfortable 90's can be if dewpoints are in check and there's a breeze. And the nights as of late have been divine. The GFS maintains this pattern into the beginning of June and it looks like the hot days really crank up starting on Sunday. Protect yourself from the sun, stay hydrated, hit the beach and ride this out :sun:

I talked about this in a post on the previous page. Here is a portion of it in relation to the lovebugs:

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The lovebugs are the worst to clean off your car and the smell of them are just absolutely nauseating.

You just have to get a net or screen to place on the front if your vehicle to protect against that acidic fluid these bugs carry. They can absolutely mess up your paint on your car if they are not taken off as soon as possible. Best advice: Dry cloth clean the lovebugs and smear off the vehicle first, then wash them off as soon as possible. This will do the best to protect the paint as much as possible.

Hey Boca, I agree with you about the weather. Boring for sure, and the rainy season for my neck in the woods here in Orlando sure would be a welcome site. Good luck on your drive up here. The little bit of good news is that those love-bugs have been thinning out here over the last week

Very weird dry spell we are in despite a weak El Nino going on, by this time last year our wet season at least here in central FL was well underway.

I don't think the weak El Nino has any effect on the weather here. Just an ongoing pattern that will eventually break sometime in June most likely.

Pattern is definitely spring-like and not rainy-season like. In fact it really hasn’t been humid lately. A bit weird for sure.

Welcome to the desert southeast. We look to maintain some version of this weather into the opening days of June. Modest dewpoints have been making this weather (so far) pretty nice. I dig it. 75+ degree dewpoints and daily convection will be here soon enough. In the meantime we have areas getting upper 90's for highs and still dropping under 70 for lows. 30-35 degree swings made possible thanks to unseasonably dry air. The sun/low dewpoints and breezy conditions are drying things out very rapidly so fire concerns are escalating quickly as I suspected they would otherwise this elevated desert climate here at sea level on the coast is carefree and pleasant..

So right now we have a dew point of 64F and an east wind at 13 with some small cumulus blowing in. It feels nice outside actually. Enjoy this while it lasts!

Been breezy coming from the east. Low humidity is nice. Much more comfortable out.

One positive: I think the love bugs are beginning to die off, as it gets too hot for them along the interior

According to the Euro through 10 days the ridge parked over Florida and the Gulf barely moves which means more of the same = no rainy season for foreseeable future.

Dewpoints are starting to creep up and that's keeping night temps up a bit. still 82 in Tampa at 1 am. Looks like 100 degree temps were registered in NC, SC, GA, FL and AL on Sunday, noteworthy anytime but especially in late May. The CPC 8-14 day seems to imply a more sane temp and precip regime returning and since normals are quickly getting wet the storms probably will get going as we dig into june. It seems like we catch up quickly when the rainy season is delayed and that makes sense as our coastal waters are warm and quickly getting warmer with high temps and unobstructed nearly maxed out sun.

Looks like we did end up breaking records this Memorial Day weekend. Not surprised in the least bit.

Elsewhere in Florida, a strong thunderstorm originating near the Alachua County-Marion County border has been chilling for the past few hours, tracking southwest at a sluggish pace.

:uarrow: It actually measured 100.6 degrees at my home.station. It was insanely hot Monday. It looks likely we will tie or break the recotd high for tomorrow, which is 99 degrees for the Jax NWS office.

we got bailed out by the seabreeze today which held our high close to 90...thankfully the nws forecast busted in favor of more seasonable temps. it was pretty nice compared to areas to inland and north

I am not a fan of this weather. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it this time of year. Late May and early June with *zero* chance of rain. late May and first couple weeks of June are when we get a lot of our rain. What happens if this persists, and then we get the typical July rainfall lull as well? We'll fall into drought very quickly.
