Well, right now I will take rain anyway we can get it. Extremely dry out there and have gone without any measurable rain now for 18 consecutive days and counting. Also reached 94 degrees here at the home station, the hottest day so far. The drought conditions indeed are adding to these extreme heat across the region. It truly is like a desert out here right now.

This week looks like the best rain chances in quite some time as both seabreeze and midlatitude (frontal) influences provide almost daily chances for some areas starting today. Hopefully during this time most areas will at least get something. It looks like the most severe drought conditions now reside near and south of I-4 and north and northwest of Lake O. When we look at the KBDI numbers Desoto, Highlands and Pasco are now above 650 with a number of other counties quickly closing in. KTPA's high yesterday reached 96, breaking the daily record by 5 and the all time monthly (set the day before) by 3...so the prospect of cooling to (and eventually below) normal will feel downright refreshing. Here's hoping to some sky water during the transition. Jackpotted or dryslotted...let's get the convective wheel of fortune in motion!

rain chances are looking better this week. seabreeze showers are breaking out presently and quite a bit of thunderstorm activity is blossoming in the northeast Gulf with more opportunities later this week.

If it wasn't for the front moving through the region here during the Friday/Saturday timeframe I'd say the rainy season is well underway.

after this Friday's front we're going back to a dry pattern so i'm hoping everyone gets some rain before then. there were some decent heavy showers inland and toward the east that dumped some locally heavy amounts in very dry counties (like parts of Highlands) so at least some folks are getting something.

disappointing so far regarding rainfall for the Tampa Bay area especially Pinellas which desperately needs rainfall under severe drought conditions. The line coming through with the cold front now is weakening and nothing to get excited about. Next chance is Thu. night and if that doesn't produce, things dry up for a while it appears.

Looking in the long-range, hope this doesn't verify. widespread mid 90s and low dewpoints for Florida, the drought/fire situation could get beyond critical for parts of Central and SW Florida as we head into mid May :double:

I got skipped (again) but much of Pasco county got some heavy rain and other areas are cashing in so this is another day where someone is getting rain and that's fine with me. the better chance for a decent, spread the wealth line of showers and storms should be with the big front on Friday after which a protracted period of dry (and increasingly hot) weather looks to be on tap. Fire weather concerns could be front and center as soon as this weekend depending on the pre frontal rain.

While the next cold front looks more promising for rainfall across West-Central Florida seems that each GFS run is gradually backing off on the amount of rain. Latest 12Z run doesn't look like much over land and certainly no drought buster. Then after this front no rain through the rest of the run out 14 days as temps climb into the 90sF. :double:

Man I wish this front would just wash out in SE Georgia or something. Without the rainy season Florida would be a desert!

WPC has been backing off on QPF estimates as well with .25-.5" common over the peninsula... a big downtrend from earlier estimates. we've seen some good rains in dry counties today though so that's a big plus. heavy storms are moving toward Palm beach county via Lake O right now.

Some seabreeze convection firing in the heat...nice to hear some thunder even though the rain missed my neighborhood. and speaking of heat....94 today in Tampa. Drought=efficient heating.

Had about 1/4 " rain yesterday from a quick downpour, didn't do much to the drying vegetation with some area lakes keep dropping.
Latest GFS runs don't look too promising for rains with the cold front tomorrow that will sweep all of the humidity out of the Peninsula through the next 7 days, with very warm to hot days coming for next week wild fires will continue to dominate the scene across the I-4 corridor :(

visible sat pics and lightning data shows a good squall line heading for pretty much the whole peninsula. here's to hoping it holds together. I haven't had a drop of rain since the beginning of April and it was already very dry then. I'm cautiously optimistic that widespread amounts of .5"+ are possible.

Latest 12Z GFS run doesn't show a whole lot for Tampa Bay area and I-4 corridor from this, heaviest rainfall stays way out over the Gulf.

rain area has been weakening as it approaches the coast. lightning has vanished....a quarter inch seems optimistic now.
