Another convective pile up is likely along the west coast. everyday is a tad different and we have cloud cover keeping instability in check (so far) but this rainy season pattern is heaven for the active weather watcher...in addition to providing needed relief from the heat.

Second day in a row at least where the Gulf and most of the Florida peninsula has been quite unstable with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Fortunately wind shear looks to be holding strong for when the Caribbean Tropical Wave enters the region. Within the last hour or so we've been getting Grand Bahama streamers bringing in heavy downpours here in NE Palm Beach County.

There is enough information to be comfortable in these classifications.... that’s not to say re analysis is a bad idea.

Whatever the reason, I prefer the second map. After Charlie, Wilma, Jeanne, the other I can’t remember the name, and now Irma... I am all hurricane out.

Frances is the storm you forgot. Slow moving Cat 2 (thus not on the map of majors) Frances. Frances famously landfalled just two weeks prior to Jeanne in almost the same location. Only time that’s happened in recorded history in same season let alone 2 weeks apart. Must have been mayhem. I wasn’t in FL then.

Frances! Thank you. I lived and still live in Lee County. It was overwhelming. Charlie was the worst for us. I lived in Cape Coral. 7 years ago, we moved out to Lehigh. Hello Irma. She did a number out here too.

On a side note, it is 4:38 PM Saturday, September 1st. No rain. First day in 2 weeks that it hasn’t rained half the day away. What a blessing.

As I recall, especially throughout the active years of the 1990s and early 2000s, there was a strangely persistent East coast trough that always seemed to save Florida at precisely the right time. It is still pretty amazing to me that we got through the hyperactive years of 1995 and 1996 without a single landfall, much less a major hurricane.

To be fair, the infamous Debby probably would have slammed us as a Cat 3 or higher had it not committed suicide over Hispaniola. And it does seem that since 2004, the "East Coast Trough" has been a lot more transient, allowing for more low runners.

We had some really strong storms on Labor Day along Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg. As Gordon passed just south of Naples, a feeder band north of the center combined with daytime heating induced convection to create a line of storms that came in off Tampa Bay. I took video of the storm. The bouy in middle Tampa Bay recorded wind gusts to 52 mph, and St. Petersburg’s Albert Whitted Airport recorded wind gusts to 49 mph. It was the strongest winds I’ve experienced here since Irma. At the beginning of the video, a spectacular Shelf Cloud moves in off Tampa Bay.

another classic tampa bay slam is underway as storm explode with seabreeze collisions as they migrate toward the coast. yesterday I had 3 separate thunderstorms. we are really making up for lost time as the rainy season ends with a bang..

Tropical systems popping up all around on peak of Atlantic season today but so far we are managing to avoid all of them. Let's hope it stays that way though now through the 3rd week in October is prime time for us. Wonder if we will finally get that monster Western Caribbean system to form in October and move north that we haven't gotten in a while?

I am amazed by the number of storms in the Atlantic all at once. A few have tracks the pile up on each other. It is hard to tell who is going where in the lower latitudes. Poor Hawaii just keeps getting run over out there. Huge Pacific ocean, tiny islands, and they are like a magnet. Mother nature is so angry this year. Uncomfortable to see this. Still watching the weakling Isaac. Not sure that one has been well resolved yet, especially with so many other tropical systems in the basin affecting things. Lot of moving parts.
