From the NWS Jax's Facebook page regarding the severe outbreak for tomorrow/tomorrow night (subject to change):

"A potential squall line on the leading edge of a fairly strong late season upper trough will approach our area Wednesday afternoon, and then move through our area Wednesday night. Our confidence continues to grow that the environment will be increasing favorable Wednesday night with atmosphere becoming increasing unstable (even in the middle of the night). The large scale ascent and upper level support coupled with these shear/cape values would be supportive of organized severe thunderstorms Wednesday night. As a result, damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall and even isolated tornadoes could become legitimate threats in our area, especially across southeast Georgia. Later forecasts will continue to refine the threat for our area. All interests should continue to closely monitor the situation."

For now, we're in the slight risk for severe weather.

Last night was rough by Jax Beach. Very intense sustained thunderstorm around 3am. Looking at the regional radar (and the always handy NHC GOM WV), could be similar tonight. Moisture being pushed northward over past few hours.

EDIT: And it's just a prelude, big show tomorrow. Strong words from NWS Jax! :uarrow:

The models did an absolutely horrible job picking up on the persistent mass of storms. Don't think anyone of them saw this coming yesterday. I was given the impression that these would remain well North, Gainesville /J'ville this morning and aft.

Strong wording indeed. Yeah it was rough last night. Multiple thunderstorms after the other. To be honest, wasn't expecting the rain to boomerang back, but we need the rain. Do you know where on the NHC website I can find that?

So the Miami NWS says front will come through Thurs evening. Then mostly dry and cooler through the weekend. But looking at the GFS out 96hr on. It shows a low off the coast sun- mon. I don't get it

The GFS is forecasting widespread Dew points in the 40's and 30's starting early Friday and going through early next week all across the Florida Peninsula. :D This is a MUCH NEEDED treat for those cool weather lovers(like me) who got gypped this recent winter season here in Florida.

96 today in Orlando, the earliest it has been this hot as a record. Can't wait for the cooler wx Fri-Sat, a well deserved break from the heat.

We're finally getting a broken line of thunderstorms to form from the big bend southwestward into the Gulf to about the latitude of Lee county. Hopefully this builds into a solid line and develops southward so the parched parts of Florida get some rain. as it stands now it wouldn't do much but there's still time before it reaches the peninsula.

tornado watch coming for northern and portions of central florida. looks like a decent broken line of supercells out in the gulf heading for the nature coast and points northeastward.

Just had a severe thunderstorm blow through St. Petersburg. Lots of heavy rains and lightning. No hail at my location in NE st Pete. Winds gusted to about 30 mph.

I had a total of 2 rounds of heavy storms this morning. A second large cell developed and moved in with heavy thunderstorms, lots of lightning and winds gusting to 30 mph.

Looks like some decent storms in the SE Gulf at this hour and will be moving onshore in the next couple hours. With any luck, they won't go poof by the time that energy reaches the east coast metros. It's hot and steamy this morning out ahead of that front for sure...maybe if we get some good solar heating in the next few hours, the storms will be able to stay intact.

Yeah....the line disintegrated into nothing. Doesn't look as if any of us will be getting anything......a dry frontal passage. It is so nasty and soupy out there, I don't see how something isn't firing up.

Thanks to the Saharan Air Layer, the cold front showers have been squashed. In April? :double:

UPDATE...
Updated for the fire section below.

.DISCUSSION...
Some Saharan air has worked into South Florida early this
afternoon which has helped to keep the atmosphere somewhat stable.
This has allowed for the line of showers and thunderstorms over
the western areas of South Florida early this afternoon to fall
apart as it moved westward through South Florida.

Feels quite refreshing! A welcome treat after a week of summer-like temperatures. Very dry air and very low dewpoints for early April across Florida today.
