Nothing is happening here in Tampa Bay metro area past week to write about except showery hit and miss sprinkles mostly in the mornings. Not a fan of this continued west wind pattern that is plaguing the area much too long.
Storm lover here getting zeros this month.

82 degree dewpoint this morning at KPIE.. glad I evacuated to the northland for a portion of season cancel season. We need an easterly flow with vigorous late day convection to take the edge off..

Well, NWS Jax WFO officially measured 98 degrees for today, which tied.the record for today's date. Heat Index once again reached 110 degrees.

What a miserable weekend here with record heat and oppresive humidity. By far the worst feeling days here we have had to this juncture this summer.

Thunderstorms are firing up across the region and will continue into the evening hours.

The strong to severe storms continue, and they have produced some pretty bad flooding in a handful of places. A very rare flash flood warning was issued for central Duval County, and several other nearby locations are currently under areal flood warning.

One storm report stated that as much as six inches of rain had fallen in downtown Jacksonville. I don't know how likely that is, but for what it's worth, a weather station measured five inches of rain as having fallen in central Clay County last night, so I guess that wouldn't be too extraordinary.

:uarrow: The seabreeze induced thunderstorms set up right along the I-295 corridor just west of and along the St. Johns River earlier this evening. There were some intense lightning strikes that were being indicated on radar in the Jax metro area as the storms erupted. The heavy rain reports definitely are believable as these storns are showing very slow motion. They can drop tremendous amounts of rain in a very short duration of time when storm cells are moving very slowly..I received just under 1/2 of an inch as the heaviest stoms mainly missed me just to my south/southwest this evening.

That finally changed tonight in North Pinellas, storms developed along the coast in Hernando/Pasco, moved SSE into Dunedin/Safety Harbor & points north, then weirdly moved west out over the Gulf. We're still in the westerly flow but there must have been some kind of localized meso low that caused this weird storm movement tonight. Meanwhile, we've had a thunder and lightning show going on 2 1/2 hours now even with the storms now over the Gulf.

Today, once again, locally heavy rainfall threatens much of the state. Areas on the gulf coast are also unfortunate enough to be at risk of both localized flooding as a result of slow-moving thunderstorms and coastal flooding.

Here in inland FL, rainfall has been occurring all the day; starting early or late in the morning, staying mostly overcast the remainder of the day with strong rain coming at random times.

Usually it's sunny all day until mid to late afternoon then it rains for about an hour and it clears up again. Rain has been very random. West wind flow has been making it very humid. August and September seem to be the most humid months in FL.

It is a day only the ducks love! It is a complete soaker as wdespread moderate to at times heavy rain continues across the entire area. Rain here at.my.home station is at just over 1.25 inches for today so far. However, I have had just under 3 inches total since Thursday overall.

This persistent trough, which has been draped across this area for a week now, looks to continue at least for a couple of more days. Thus is a perfect illustration in that we don't necessarily needorganized tropical cyclones to bring a wide range of problems with rain and flooding to the area. We have had a stagnant wet pattern with this trough to do its misery..

After several rainy days, it was sunny for once yesterday. Then around 8 pm we started getting thunderstorms that lasted a couple hours. Was surprised It rained so late. Today the winds have shifted to come from the east instead of the west.

A freak storm that I thought would be tiny started raining at 10:30 last night and didn't stop until dumping 3.53 inches of rain on me a little after midnight.

Any input on the possible threat of a tropical cyclone on the Atlantic coast of the state?

For now,, check out the Area of disturbed weather in the Bahamas Thread. I have been posting frequently in that thread about the potential that system could pose to Florida this weekend.
This Thread is about to get very active.

BTW , NHC now has 20% perrcent for development in 120 hours.

They will designate this an invest really at any time now soon.

Well the pattern has changed here in coastal SE Florida. For days if not weeks (if not months) it has been stagnant with west wind flow. Now we have an onshore east wind with storms moving in off the Atlantic moving briskly from NE to SW.. Lots of thunder last night and this evening with gusty east winds. Now you are getting some vibes something may be brewing east of us. Atmosphere seems rather energized.

Storms which move out into the Atlantic off the SE coast or make landfall along the SE coast often bring a day or two or somewhat drier, cooler air into the Tampa Bay area. I recall an almost fall-like day around here after Hugo made landfall in 1989, and in 2001 Gabrielle brought us an unusually cool mid-September day in its wake.

That's not quite going to happen with Dorian passing off to the NE but I noticed by late in the week GFS has our dew points in the mid-60s to around 70 which is as low as they've been since May so we should have a couple of pleasant mornings Friday and Saturday at least.

I will settle for cool enough to go outside without feeling like you are in a rainforest and in need of a shower just from getting the mail. 8-)

Well, now the other aspect that Dorian is bringing.in his wake: plenty of subsidence, which is always the case on the back side of departing tropical cyclones. Dry and hot weather in store with heat indices ranging upwards to 105 degrees this weekend.

Temps in the mid to upper 90s will be the case the next 4 days across this region. It is going to be another scorching weekend.
